This is my story. My life. My mystery. The days I often dreamt if I could ever break from the spell. If I could finally be free from you. If only I could be me again and escape from your grasp.
The day it happened was in Winter. Winter. A festive month. A time of celebration. The streets were topped with snow and a warm chill filled the air. Warm orange lights glow out of the family windows making people feel welcome. Families decorating Christmas trees, others singing carols. All of them having a wonderful time. But me, I was far from that.
To break the calm, mellow atmosphere was the noise of footsteps treading on the fresh, pearl snow. I knew it would be you. I tensed up and as I expected, it was indeed You that appeared. You took another step forwards and your face was unmasked. You said it was time, time to do the deed. Time to reveal the secret, The secret I wasn’t meant to discover. Your dark secret and now I had to pay the price. The consequence of not obeying was death. Now I was to do what you wanted and I was part of this atrocious deed. What could I do but follow and obey?
Your stone cold eyes, your chilling glare, your eerie presence left me no choice. You seized my arm with force and led me down the narrow alley. through the faint light I could see you breathe in the bleak, misty air, your lips pursed together tightly and your eyebrows clenched with concentration. Your dark hair covered your eyes and your skin was as pale as a sheet. You had been waiting for this day for a very long time. The planning lasted for hours and nothing, absolutely nothing was to get in the way.
You gripped my wrist tightly and led me towards our destination. We continued for what seemed like hours but it was just after a mere thirty minutes and many twists and turns until we finally got there. As soon as we arrived, I could see the twinkle of excitement in your eyes. This was the place that you needed me to do the deed. The wind howled and the place was concealed by gigantic trees which swayed in the moonlight. A shiver went down my spine and I could feel my legs turn to jelly. Right at that moment, I wished more than anything to be one of those people singing Christmas carols or decorating Christmas trees. Oh how I longed that was me. But reality soon hit me and as you gripped harder on my arm, i realised that soon I must do it. I was to collect your daughter and leave her there to die.
At that exact moment of thought, the skies lit up and a roaring growl of thunder filled the air. Just a split second later, rain from all directions seemed to spill down to the ground. The hefty downfall of rain disguised the noise of my pounding heart that was beating out of control. It would only be a matter of minutes a child could survive up here, alone and exposed. And yet still, I had to do it, the consequences of not obeying were too great.
