Quinn, Jace, Larissa, and Alex all sat in their history class on a sunny Monday morning. The teacher rambled on and on, getting completely off track what what he was originally talking about. Everyone was used to this happening. They went to a crappy local public school, nothing fancy.
Quinn was seated in the far left of the classroom. She was leaning forward with her palm under her chin, and popping her gum as she thought about the reality she hoped to have. Quinn wanted to be famous. She was pretty enough to be a model, but sadly with her being five feet and three inches tall, that was not going to happen. Modelling may be out of the mix, but Quinn can dance and act. Since she was a little girl she had been taken dance lessons, and now she's gotten so good she's never once lost a competition. Acting however is her passion. She dreamed of being on the big screen, playing different characters. No one knows of this dream though. It's her little secret, and when she goes big she's going to shock everyone.
Jace sat about two desks down from Quinn. He truly did want to learn what the teacher was saying, but he could not understand a thing. Jace hated school. He hated the students, and the teachers. He hated everything about it. Girls were constantly flirting with him, and trying to bother him in class to give him their number. He may be what people call a jock, but he still tried in school. His grades though doesn't always reflect his effort. Jace was the captain of the lacrosse team. He loved playing lacrosse, until his dad started getting involved. His dad loves football and baseball. So when Jace rejected the idea of playing both sports, his father went nuts and has never once gone to any of his games. His older brother went to some fancy Ivy League school, and is most likely to take over the family business. His older sister is into fashion, and is studying in New York to become a fashion designer. His younger brother was in his sophomore year. He is the biggest loser, and constantly gets bullied. People don't know they're related, and Jace doesn't want them to know. He's a failed brother. He let his brother get bullied. He was resting his face in his arms on his desk as he dreamed. He dreamed of a better world.
Larissa was closer to the centre of the classroom. Her eyes were looking at the board as if she was paying attention, but if you were to look closely you could tell she was in a daze. Zoned out from everything around her. Larissa was the nerd, the quiet girl, the girl next door, or whatever you want to call it. The lowest grade she had ever received was a ninety percent, and although it may seem high to others she sat in her room crying for a full day over that one mark. Grades meant a lot to her. She wanted to get into Princeton and leave her small town as fast as possible. She wasn't bullied, abused, or even teased in the slightest. She was invisible. She was there. Just a person in the background everyone forgot about, and she wanted a fresh start. But no matter how bad she wants this to happen, there's something holding her back. Or should I say someone.
Alex sat beside the window looking at the school's fountain and the parked cars. Alex has the highest grades out of everyone in his class, so he never payed attention. Once he heard it once he didn't need it to be taught again. Unlike Larissa, Alex doesn't know what he wants to do. He's been taking a different variety of classes since he began high school, and with his parents constantly pressuring him to make a decision is not helping his stress. Alex was dorky and sarcastic. He's the guy who reads comics in his spare time, and gushes over the newest superhero movie. Because of his love for those things, that's why he gets harassed a lot in the hallway. Binders slammed to the ground, people ripping his notebook, and shoving him into the lockers was a regular routine for poor Alex.
"That's why slavery happened. Your assignment is-," the teacher began to say, but the bell cut him off. Before he could be given the chance to continue everyone ran outside the classroom, almost trampling the teacher in the process.
The halls were crowded with students as they all made their way to the cafeteria. When it came to lunch time, it seemed like such a cliche because of the way things were organized. Everyone sat with their groups. The popular people at their own table, the nerds, goths, student council, and all the other groups you could think of all sat together. Quinn and Jace sat together at the popular table. Jace was popular because of lacrosse, while Quinn just is popular. She doesn't play any sports or anything, there's just something about Quinn that makes everyone drawn to her. Larissa sat at the table with the people on the student council. Larissa won the election in the beginning of the year for president, and ever since then she's been sitting with her peers. Alex didn't belong with any group. He bought his lunch, and stood by the door questioning where to sit. As he looked around the tables he sighed as he turned around and walked out. He did this everyday for years hoping one day someone would see him and invite him to sit with them. He sat down in front of a locker near the cafeteria and began to bite on his apple. He was so focused in his thoughts he didn't even notice the person leaning above him.
