The woman, barely past girl hood kept going and digging. Food was difficult to find and she was paranoid that someone had been tracking her for the past moon. Her finger tore at the dirt some more at her frustration with the situation.
The bushes rustled again, the woman bolted. She blazed past the trees and bushes, there was a river up ahead but if she was able to turn right she would be able to shake whatever horror that was trailing close to her. As she ran the thing moved to her right. She cursed allowed.
She kept running anxiety creeping from her toes. A panic swelled in her as she reached the lakes edge. She could swim, but there were many more monsters in the lake than all the forest. She slowed, halting at the rivers edge. She faced the forest and ground her teeth.
The woman looked around, "Come Out!" she yelled, her voice only quivering a bit. Nothing happened.
"I know your there! God get it over with already," Her voice broke to a sob.
A bush to the west shook. A deer walked out of it. The woman stared at the deer with the same confusion as the deer stared at her. The both stared at each other for a fleeting amount of time, but the woman was the first to move. She body tensed up and if there was any amount of shared innocence between the two, it was gone. She waved she hands and yelled viscous things to the deer and the deer left.
The woman made she way back to the place where she called home for the night. With little food to show with today's events she huddled around the woven branches and leaves and shivered.
The woman did not tense up this time, the cover of darkness had made it virtually impossible for anyone to see her. She was confident of that.
But the bush shook again slightly raising the hairs on her arms just a little.
Damn it get yourself together, she thought, and moved away from her hiding space.
She held her head up high, "What the fuck do you want?!" She yelled at the top of her lungs and aimed towards the bush. The woman was angry and another deer would be the perfect way to relive some of that paranoid stress.
It wasn't a deer, but a man.
He stepped out of his position behind the bush. And the man stared at the frail rapid woman before him. She snarled at him, crouching ready to fight.
"Who are you? Leave." She hissed.
"How long have you been here?" He countered in a much smoother tone.
"Leave me alone!" She pounced, grabbing the the man by the shoulders.
He threw her off, but she ran back and tried to grab at his face. The man grabbed her arms, nullifying her feeble attempt at landing any damage on him.
"How long have you been here?" He asked again, authority laced his voice.
She doesn't stop trying to hurt him. Punching, clawing, kicking, nothing lands. The man throws her off on the ground, but she keeps getting back up. Finally the man grabs her from behind and pins her arms to her chest. She screams and thrash.
"Shh, it's ok, it ok." The man continues to whisper things into the woman's ear. As he continued she eventually collapsed on to the ground, her still in his arms.
Her crying and screaming echoing the forest floor to a soft rumble.
