"Ooh! Mabel, look at these! I didn't even know I brought these!" Dipper said, holding up a pair of dark blue tennis shoes for Mabel to see.
Mabel gave them a quick glance, and giving him a small smile. "Dipper, you have too many shoes," she said, then looking down at her own suitcase, making sure she had everything.
"I do not! You just don't have an appreciation for my love of shoes," he said.
Shirts, boots, coats, pants, socks, I think I've got everything, Mabel thought, looking through her black duffle bag, and going through her mental checklist of things she had brought. Due to Weirdmageddon, a few shirts, socks, and pairs got ripped, so she didn't have all the clothes she had brought with here but she was close. My toothbrush, brush headbands, I've got it all, except-
Mabel looked back a her bed, where her sketchbook laid, pencil inside, used as a bookmark. Mabel rarely ever left a drawing unfinished, but this time she did, to pack. She returned to the bed, to finish it. Her hand and pencil flowed over the page, as she remembered it all over again.
Weirdmageddon.
Nothing could shake that from her memory, hiding in the Mystery Museum, away from Bill, as Ford yelled at Stan, both of them desperately trying to find a way to stand up to Bill. Bill's frightening castle, everything, all the way to Dipperlandia. And all of it stood out so clearly in her mind. She constantly had dreams about it, and most of them were nightmares. And they scared her, making her worry that Bill would return.
When she looked back down at her drawing, she saw another dark picture she had drawn, related to Weirdmageddon. She saw a group of people, holding a flag up, as a triangle, loomed way up over the group, about to kill them. Jagged lines, supposedly blood, loomed everywhere, as silhouettes of the dead people hung everywhere.
Mabel dropped her pencil on the ground.
"Hey Mabes, are you okay?" Dipper asked, walking over to Mabel. "Ooh! I drawing! Can I see? Please?" He smiled wider, somehow. No matter how many times she told him her drawings were dark, he still treated them like she had drawn a puppy with the most adorable of eyes.
Not that it was a bad thing.
She slid her sketchbook over to Dipper, who looked at it for a minute. "Another memory?"
Mabel nodded. "I-I-"
"KIDS! Lunch!" They heard Melody call, which caused them both to swing their heads towards the door.
"Sweet! I'm hungry," Dipper said, running towards the staircase, and sliding down the banister. That had become a habit for Dipper, while Mabel slumped down the stairs slowly.
It was quiet, which was odd, because usually the place had some noise. But it was quiet. Stan and Ford quietly talked, as Melody read from a piece of paper, that looked like a letter of some sort. Dipper immediately dug into the sandwich put in front of him, while Mabel just gazed at it, in her own little thought bubble thinking about the drawing.
"You okay, Mabel?" Melody asked, giving her a small smile, as an attempt to cheer her up.
"Oh, um, yeah, tired. Just tired," Mabel answered quickly. Melody nodded, and went back to reading her letter.
"Your train comes tomorrow," Ford pointed out.
Mabel wasn't sure if that was a relief, or a terror. On one hand, she could go back home and leave all this panic about the mysteries behind, and go back to helping with ghosts. But on the other hand, how would she explain to her parents that she spent her winter break in danger, and fighting monsters? What if leaving only made the memories worse? What if Bill followed her back to California?
