"Happy birthday sweetheart," a voice whispered in my ear. "You're 18 today and you are officially an adult, much to my dismay," the voice continued, no longer whispering.
I grumbled into my pillow in response and swatted at the voice as though it were a pesky fly.
"Don't be like that. I have a feeling that it's going to be a wonderful day. You should be up, jumping on your bed with joy!" My mother exclaimed.
I rolled my head to the side so my face was no longer being smothered by my pillow.
"How can you be so happy at," I looked at my alarm clock,"6:00 in the morning! It's way too early. I have another fifteen minutes, why'd you wake me up?" I asked, starting to fall back to sleep.
"Ginger..." She warned me.
"I know, I know. If I don't get up now, I shall never see the light of day again. Although I wouldn't mind that right about now." I mumbled the last part to myself, thinking that she wouldn't hear it.
"Excuse me?"
I guess I was wrong.
"I said, 'I love you very much my dear mother.' That's all," I told her, hoping to save my ass.
"That's what I thought but I just wanted to be sure. Now get up and get ready." She finished with a firm yet happy voice as she left my room.
I sighed and slowly rolled out of my warm bed, wishing that we could spend more time together. When I stood up and was about to head over to my closet, I noticed a pretty blue bag at the end of my bed that had not been there the night before. Which meant that my mom had left it there.
Wow. Six in the morning and I already had my first present.
I grabbed the pretty bag and took out all of the tissue paper. Then I reached in and grabbed whatever was at the bottom, pulling it out. It turned out to be a cute dress.
I stripped out of my pajamas and quickly zipped myself into the dress. Then I went to the mirror on my closet door to see how it looked.
It was a dark purple dress that went down to my mid thigh and hugged my body in all the right places, thanks to my curves. It was sleeveless and had a layer of lace with a silk tie around the waist.
I absolutely loved it!
I finished getting ready and headed downstairs for what I had hoped to be a simple birthday breakfast. But instead, I got the total opposite.
On the counter in the kitchen was a huge birthday cake, with probably 18 candles, since it was after all tradition to put the age in candle form. Surrounding the beautiful blue, white, and purple cake, which was most likely chocolate, was, at the very least, ten presents. And around the island was my family which consisted of my mom Emily, my aunt Rachael, and my brother, Max.
"Thank you guys so much!" I exclaimed going over and hugging each and every one of them for a minimum of thirty seconds each.
After I finished suffocating them, we sat down and I immediately went for the mouth watering cake. But right before I could cut myself a slice my mom slapped my hand away.
"Ouch! What was that for?" I asked.
"This isn't for breakfast. You may be 18, but you are still living under my roof and what I say goes. I made pancakes, eggs, and bacon, your absolute favorites. Even though with the amount you eat, I'm surprised that you haven't had heart failure yet!" I smiled at this while still looking at my cake longingly.
My mom must have noticed the need in my eyes before saying,"Oh, cut it out! You're looking at it as though it is the last piecee of chocolate on planet earth, and if you don't get it now, you'll die."
