I grabbed my two heavy suitcases off the luggage belt and set them down to text my aunt.
"Just got my luggage. I'll be in front :)" I texted.
I walked out of the airport baggage claim and into the stuffy hot Dallas, Texas weather. California is hot but it doesn't compare to Texas. I've been here once with my father when we were visiting my uncle, aunt, and cousin Bradley but that was it. And I was like 10. I'm 17 now. Junior in high school. Former student of Beverly Hills High. My dad wanted me to go to public school to toughen me up because I don't have any siblings.
I saw my bubbly aunt pull up in front of me in a foreign black truck. She parked it and hopped out to greet me.
"Anastasia! Look how beautiful you are! You're so adorable! Taller than me almost!" My aunts chirpy Texan voice rang in my ears.
"Aunt Chrissy! I've missed you so much" I gave her a good hug and she just stared at me for a little and gave my a smile.
"He would be so proud of you" she whispered. I instantly felt my chest get heavy. I looked down at my beaten up black converses. My dad passed away a few months ago and it's too soon to talk about.
"Let's get to the house and then you can see Bradley and uncle John." She gave me a tight smile and picked up my suitcases and tossed them gently into the back of the back of the truck. We hopped in.
"Who's truck is this?" I asked my aunt.
"Bradley's. My cars in the shop so he said I could use his." She smiled at me and turned her attention back to the road. I nodded my head and looked out the window. So green. Also the houses are pretty huge. My old house was a very nice house, we lived in Beverly Hills and my dad did extremely well and bought a beautiful house with a massive backyard and pool. But my old house doesn't compare to my aunt and uncles house. It's bigger in Texas I guess.
"Pretty ain't it?" My aunt asked.
"Beautiful" I responded taking a deep breath.
We pulled into a gated community with a big fountain in the center. The houses were all massive and gorgeous. I remembered the house like I've been here a million times.
"We're here" my aunt said hopping out of the truck. We got my luggage and stepped in front. She opened the door and the gorgeous Spanish style house took my breath away. I looked up at the long set of stairs and followed my aunt into a big living room.
"Bradley? John? Are y'all here?" She yelled across the mansion.
"I'm sitting right here" I heard a hoarse voice say from the big couch. I totally overlooked him.
"Well aren't you gonna say hi to your cousin?" My aunt huffed at Bradley. He rolled his super green eyes and stood up from the couch. Holy crap this boy is tall. I gave him a tight smile as he made his way around the couch. He towered over me and gave me an awkward side hug.
"Can I go to Wesley's house now please" he groaned.
"Why don't you have the boy come here anymore?" She hissed.
"Because it's Wesley" he said rolling his eyes.
"Alright then" Chrissy said tossing him the truck keys. He left and then it was just me and Chrissy.
"Well honey I'm gonna set y'all upstairs in the Bradley's old room. He already took his stuff out." She sounded so calm.
"Where's Bradley staying? I don't want to take his room say from him!" I felt my anxiety grow.
"No hon it's okay. He moved into the guest room." She grabbed one of my bags and started walking to the stairs. I followed her into a good sized bedroom. It had two window doors and both led out to their own little balconies. The room was a sandy color and had a queen sized bed with a white duvet and white sheets.
"I'll give u a minute to get settled. I'll be downstairs if you need me." My aunt said leaving me alone in the room. I walked over to one of the nightstands and saw a familiar picture. It was the time my dad took me to Texas for the first time. He was carrying me in his arms and Bradley was on his shoulders. Me and Bradley were so small then but we all had the biggest smiles on our faces. I felt a small tear roll down my cheek. I didn't even realise I was crying until I couldn't stop. My mascara was probably all over my face. I went into my bathroom that was connected to my room and looked at myself. My tan skin was covered in running mascara. I wiped under my eyes and sniffed up.
He's in a better place
He's in a better place
I told myself that he was happy now. And safe from her. I smiled a little at the thought.
I ran my hands through my thick, long, brown hair and rolled my eyes. Why am I even trying to look presentable. I'm literally the ugliest person alive. My dimples make my cheeks wide just like a chipmunk. My eyes are blue, nothing special. I don't have a model body type every guy wants. This is why I've never dated anyone.
A couple hours passed and I got all my clothes in the walk in closet and took a shower and re did my makeup. I watched a show with my aunt and then she told me that Bradley was taking me to a party after his football game.
"Bradley's waiting out front for you. It's a bit chilly outside but he has a few sweatshirts in his truck." My aunt said as I walked out the door and into Bradley's truck. I was wearing ripped skinny jeans and an olive green crop top because apparently those are my new high schools colors.
Bradley's didn't start the car yet but he just looked out onto the vacant dark road.
"Are we gonna-" I couldn't say anything else.
"Listen cous, we may have been close when we were younger but that's over with. I want you to stay away from me at this party and stay out of my way or else we'll have some issues. And don't flirt with my friends" he sounded so harsh and abrupt.
"Ok"
"Got it?"
"Got it." I repeated. He started the truck up and drove. We've been driving for two minutes and then he took a sharp turn into a big field.
"Um you're having a party on a field?" I asked.
"Every Friday night. The entire school" he answered. We drove on this huge lot and then we saw cars lined up horizontally with their headlights on high beam and facing each other. There was like 80 teenager almost all of them with a red solo cup in their hands.
"Okay I've decided to introduce you to my friends but don't flirt at all" he said in a deep voice.
"Alright" I mumbled. He turned in next to a car and there was like 5 big guys sitting in a truck. Almost all the cars were either jeeps or trucks.
"Get out please" he grumbled, slamming his door.
"Asshole" I said to myself. I hopped out and didn't look where I was going until I ran into someone.
"Oh my god miss, I apologize" a raspy southern voice said helping me up.
"Don't worry about it. It was my fault" I looked up at a muscular teen. I looked up at his perfectly sculpted jawline and his crystal blue eyes. He had tan skin and brown hair. He gave me a million dollar smile and held his hand out to shake. I took it.
"Wesley Chambers, I don't think I've ever seen your pretty face around here" he said causing my cheeks to heat up.
"I'm new here. Anastasia Oaks. I'm from California" I said with confidence in my voice.
"It's a please to meet you Stas" he said smiling at me.
"Anastasia" I corrected.
"Stas is my new nickname for you. Let's go introduce you to people. I'll start with my friends. Are you a junior or senior?" I followed next to him as we walked up to the truck full of guys.
"Junior next year" I answered.
"Okay same with me and my friends. We're on the football team. I'm a wide receiver" he said proudly.
"Cool" I followed him up to the car.
"Guys this is Stas. She's from California" he said to the group of guys.
"Hey Stas" they all said in unison.
"Hey" I giggled.
"Hey cous. Forgot what I told you?" I turned around slowly to face Bradley with an arm wrapped around a brunette.
"I remember" I said rolling my eyes at him.
"No way you guys are related?" Wesley laughed.
"Not by choice" he hissed. I huffed.
"I think I'm gonna walk home. Nice to meet you guys." I said turning on my heels walking back to the house. I watched the road the entire time so I knew where I was going.
"Wait up!" I heard Wesley's voice shout. I turned around and he jogged over.
"What's up" I asked laughing a little.
"I'll walk you home" he reassured.
"Aw no it's alright. I'll be just fine. Plus I don't want you leaving all your friends." I said trying to change his mind knowing Bradley told me to leave his friends alone.
"I don't want a pretty lady like you walkin alone in a new town" he winked at me causing my cheeks to heat up. I looked down at my shoes.
"You're actually adorable" he mumbled. I could barely hear him.
"Huh?" I giggled.
"Oh nothing" he said giving out the hottest laugh I've ever heard.
"Wes! Baby where are you going?" I heard a high pitch voice scream from behind us.
"I'm walking Bradley's cousin home!" He shouted back. She jogged awkwardly up to us. She looked at me up and down and I looked at her up and down. She wore tight, too short, jean shorts and a red tank top that showed a lot of cleavage due to the obvious push up bra. She has blonde, almost white longish hair and crystal blue eyes and tan skin. She's actually gorgeous despite my harsh description.
"Who's your friend?" Her squeaky voice asked Wesley not taking her eyes off me.
"I told you, Bradley's cousin" he said harshly.
"Watch it big boy" she challenged. I could feel the tension rise in the conversation.
"I'm Anastasia" I spoke up. It came out raspier than expected. I have a super raspy voice.
"Did I ask?" She hissed.
"Calm down Lacey. God you always are like this!" Wesley shouted in his usual deep voice.
"Sorry I don't like my boyfriend hanging around with random sluts and 'walking them home'" she ranted.
"One; You don't even know me and two for a persons who's head is as big as yours i would think you'd have a bigger brain then that." I spit. I was shocked by what I said but it needed to be said. I looked over at Wesley who has his jaw dropped and then stiffled a laugh.
"You think that's funny? Watch your back" she said narrowing her eyes at me.
"Yeah okay honey. Thanks for walking me this far but I can get home just fine thanks." I mumbled the last part but he heard it. I turned on my heels and fast walked away.
"Stas!" I heard Wesley shout but I kept walking.
This should be an interesting year.
