The clacking of boots eco throughout the seemingly empty town. An eerie darkness creeps up from every crack in the street. Each menacing ally-way contained darkness seeping from them. But not just any darkness; this darkness seemed to hold every nightmare of every child that ever was or was to be. All fears imaginable incased in dark matter. As the clacking of boots against concrete grows stronger, I grow weaker. With each and every heart-clenching step, I tense up. He's going to find me here. I just know it.

The odd sent of disinfectant hung in the air despite my current hiding spot: garbage. My head pulsed with agony, though I don't know why.

All of a sudden, the clacking halts. He's close, very close; I can sense it. A hand grows close to my hiding spot in this filth. My heart rate speeds up despite time seemingly slowing down. Just when I hear the gentle tap of fingers resting on the lid, about to expose me to the outside world, a startling clash breaks me free of my petrified state. A wave of relief washes over me. I almost even laugh!

Almost.

But that sudden happiness soon dissolves when the burnning sense of reality settles it. Something else is out there. Im not exactly safe yet. My "savoir" might not even know im here. Or it does, but its not looking to save me at all. Maybe whatever is out there now just wanted to destoy me more than him. Or I could be over reacting. Whatever the answer my be, I can't just let the suspense incase me. As I wait for a moment to see if it's safe to investigate, I brace myself. Anything could be out there.

Anything.

I carefully raise the lid.
