Noel Bucks, charming woman. She was never the one to go out for a night out with friends, she stayed in the comfort of her home in New York with her two cats and she was happy about in. She loved having company over to entertain but she loved being able to sit in bed and read a sappy romance novel or find quirky DIY's to do in her spare time. But she had a full time job that was beginning to bore her as the time went on. she was the bosses assistant; she made interviews, ran around to do his errands for the company, and so on. He owned a company called Stakes Technologies, in which he was going to retire from in the next couple years. He, Tom, was going to give his son the company when he figured the time was right.
Noel knocked on Tom's door. "Come in." Tom was sitting at his desk with his newspaper and a cup of coffee. He looked up and acknowledged her, "Noel? I gave you the day off today."
"You didn't say anything of the. sort, sir." She chirped, making him confused.
He looked down at his calendar shook his head, "I'm sorry dear, I should've had you off. You've worked everyday these past two weeks and I should've told you to take off for today. You can go home if you wish."
She shook her head and gave him a few papers. "I have a lot to do today. I also need you to sign these pa-" she was cut off by his son, John, walking in. He wore a gray pressed suit with a black tie.
"Sorry about that, he's asked me to come in today and see what he does. He only asks me to come in today because he said that you were going to be off," he looked puzzled as he looked at his father.
She shook her head and smiled, "It's alright. I was just telling him that he needed to sign off some papers for the buyer. And I also wanted to know if I could have a couple days off next week, Thursday and Friday perhaps? I want to visit my family in Ohio."
Tom nodded. "Why don't you take off Wednesday too? I'll be fine, I'll have my son do everything," John smiled. "Or I can have Victoria do it."
"I'm not supposed to be on the plane till midnight Wednesday night, I'll be fine to work during the day, sir." She offered a small smile.
"Sounds great, Miss Bucks. I'll let you do whatever you're supposed to do." Tom and John smiled at her as she exited the office.
Noel took the elevator down to the third floor from the eighth to get some coffee and drop the papers off to accounting.
"Wait for me?" Said a low voice that shook her. She held her hand out to keep the doors from closing. She looked up and saw John. He had chiseled features like he was carved from stone. "Thank you, Noel, right?" She nodded.
"John?" He nodded. "Is he retiring soon?" She asked, looking forward.
"Yeah, how did you know?"
"He said that he was going to have you take charge of the company when he was going to retire. Just making sure is all."
"In all honesty, I thought he as going to give it to my brother, George. He seems like he would be a better fit for this place than me."
She looked up at him puzzled as the elevator started to go down. "What do you mean? He's always said that you would be a good fit here. You love building technological things, at least that's what he told me."
He hummed and nodded. "He is right on that. I used to make remote control cars but I stopped since I started owning a coffee shop. I've had the company for about two years now."
The door opened when she was supposed to get out. "Well I hope you do take the job, your dad talks great things about you and he would really love to give you the company." He huffed and shrugged.
"Hopefully I change my mind in the near future. It was nice speaking to you, Noel."
She smiled and walked out of the elevator and began to walk down the hallway. She opened the second door on her left and smiled to the middle aged woman. "Hello, Susan. How are you doing this morning?"
"Well for it being ten in the morning and having two cups of coffee in me, I'm doing great. How about yourself, darling."
Noel shrugged, "I guess I can't complain. I'm on my way to have my first cup of coffee," Susan gasped. "And Tom's son is here this morning. He's showing John how everything works in the company."
Susan looked puzzled, "I thought he was going to have George work here?"
Noel shook her head as she began pouring coffee into her cup. "He's always wanted John to work here, at least that's what he told me. He knew that George was going to screw something up."
"None of my business I guess, but he's pretty cute?"
Noel laughed, "He's okay but no one I'd ever go for."
"You never date anyone, Noel," she laughed.
"You're right, and it's going to stay that way." Noel laughed and walked up to Susan's desk, "Here are your papers, I'll call you later."
Noel walked out of her office with her coffee and walked towards the elevator. She pressed the up button and waited a couple minutes for it to come down. When the doors opened, and there was John again.
