It was lovely evening, young boys playing football on the street with cool breeze and dancing leaves. I, on the other hand Jasmine with my cousins were strolling down the street and visiting few houses. "Look at him" l said silently. There stood a young chubby and cocky boy Ala in his early teen years. Ala lives on the same street with me, same school and the same evening Religious tutoring. So I saw him every day but it was different this time around. He's wearing a Manchester jersey and shorts! I looked him straight in the eye and proceeded to his house which was on our list of visits.. "Salam" we said and his mother came through with smiles and warm hugs. "How are you my kids?" She asked. " we're fine and mama sends her regards" we replied although it wasn't true. Ala's mum is a nice mum, she likes to talk and play but when it comes to serious stuff you better get your glasses on!! So we finished with Ala's house and headed outside. "Oh God" I was talking to myself.. "Is he looking at me?" Still talking to myself. I was walking so fast my cousins shouted my name out loud. Our house was maybe six houses away so we got home quick. I just didn't understand what I was feeling. I was having butterflies. I was having goosebumps. Just like how Cinderella felt for Prince Charming the first time they met? I just couldn't understand. I was trying to find the right word for what I felt. LIKE !! There I found it! I liked a boy, a boy I saw everyday but only felt different about that day! "Guys! There's something I have to tell you" I said with relief "yea!?" My British cousin(Aleena) said with her bugs bunny ears. "I think I like a boy" I covered my face. "Really?" The other cousin(Naana)asked. "And who is he?" They said simultaneously "Ala" I was still covering my face. "Oh good" Naana sighed. She never liked him anyway probably because they were in the same class. "That's a good one! He's cute" Aleena said happily! "Yeass" I nodded! "Do you want us to go talk to him?" Aleena suggested. I wanted to talk to him so bad I said yes but didn't know how to even start. "So let's go back to their house" Aleena stood up. " you know no ones going to allow us out Aly, it's almost 6 noon" I told her trying to chicken out. "Oh well we could sneak out " she said with a mischievous smile. "I'm telling aunt if you go out" a little annoying voice whispered. Oh thats Hala, my annoying little cousin that we can't tell anything neither can we eat three scoops of ice cream in front of and also Aleena's little sister. "Hala you heard nothing, capiche?" I told her boldly. "Jas! Jas!! Come! You need to see something" Aly shouted. She was pointing outside through the window. I ran quickly and there he was approaching my house with his boys. OMG! It was Ala! He was coming to my house.. How could this be happening? What would I do? Is he coming to me? I was freaking out! "Jas! Jas! Jas!" The nanny shouted. "Ala is here to see you" she added. My heart stopped for a bit there. I was frozen. "Who's ala?" I was talking to myself.. "ouch" I snapped back thanks to Aly's pinch.. "off you go" she said
in her British accent. I left the room everyone staring at me. They looked as nervous as I was. "Hey" he muttered "hello" I replied, acting as if I was feeling nothing. He didn't even look at me, busy trying to change the channel to sports. Feeling so comfortable in my living room. "What the hell is this boy doing?" Did he come here to watch sports or act all bossy in my living room. I couldn't get what he was trying to do. I sat down trying to pretend as if he wasn't there and he finally turned and said "my friend wants to say hi, he's downstairs waiting for you" and he turned to tv. Argghhhh I hated him for a moment there! Like seriously? Doesn't it look obvious I like you? I was taking to myself. Without hesitation I went downstairs being all mean and rude. Who's here to see me? I asked and a semi child semi adult voice answered. "That would be me!" Oh hello. I said. The boy had a scar halfway his forehead to his brows. He was tall, dark skinned and looked a little bit rough. "I'm ala's friend, Ush and I'd love for us to be friends if you don't mind. I live few blocks away from Alaa and I've never seen you. I like you." Froze for some minutes trying to accumulate what he just said. "Ok!"I replied knowing I'll never see him again. "I have to go now" I quickly stood up. "My mum will be back any moment, bye!" Didn't wait for him to reply running upstairs. "They're leaving" I told Ala. Without hesitation he looked at me and gave me a naughty smile. Faked a smile and rolled my eyes. "See you soon" he said waving and heading for the stairs. "Guys! You know what just happened?" I shouted! What? What? What? Spill us the gist!! So eager to hear! I started narrating all that happened. Naana was giggling and was so happy it wasn't Ala that came to see me. Aly on the other hand was mad and called Ush a riffraff.. "I'm telling maama!" The annoying voice interrupted. Here's a bar of chocolate and promise you wouldn't say a word. "Pinky promise" hala replied.
