The leaves were stirring restlessly alongside the road as she was walking home. The sky was a perfect picture of purple and blue hues. As she started to enter the woodsy part of town, she remembered what the elders had told her as a child. Don't enter those woods they would say, they'll eat you alive. But who were they? That's the part that they never told her. Even at 17 years old Fey lily still listened to those little murmurs and whispers that her elders told her. Just being this close to the woods sent cold shivers snaking down her spine.
As she neared the park bench near the small pond she sat by every day after working at the pet sanctuary, she saw little ducks being carried across the pond by a small current . She sat down on the bench and watched the ducks for a few minutes until she dug around in her small book bag for a book. Blood lines was the book she was reading today; it was one of her favorites so far. The cover had a girl with blond hair with a small delicate golden lily adorning her cheek. She was almost half way through it until she noticed it was almost passed curfew, so she stuffed her book into her book bag and set off towards her house.
When she finally got home it was only a few minutes before curfew so she dashed inside. Her mom looked up from where she was sorting through papers at the table and said, "cutting it close there, dear". She smiled sheepishly and replied, "Sorry got caught up in a book". Her mother smiled softly at her, then motioned at the dinner on the counter top, "Eat". Her mother was always saying she needed to get some meat on her bones. she thanked her mom and brought the plate into her room along with the herbal tea her mom insisted she drink every day (sigh). She turned her tv on and sat the plate down on her nightstand and turned back to her t.v, a rerun of that 70s show was on. She picked up her heavy laden plate full of chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and corn and started to take small bites of the chicken. She looked down at her work clothes, might as well change. She sat her plate down on her night stand again and grabbed a tshirt and a pair of boxers. Once she was dressed she walked back over to her bed and laid there for a few minutes.
She was tired from working with the animals at the animal sanctuary, she worked from 10 am to 6 pm. She honestly loved her job though. She worked with her best friend, Violet Shade. They hit it off back in second grade when violet sucker punched Ray Stevens for pulling Feys hair. Violet and Fey were complete contrasts in the appearance catagory, violet with her long ebony hair, tan skin and vibrant green eyes, and Fey with her white hair, pale skin and piercing blue eyes. They both worked the same shifts. Perks from volunteering long hours during the summers. Today violet was sick so she wasn't at the animal sanctuary, nor was she able to walk home with her. She silently felt a little injustice at that part, she laughed at herself. Fey looked up at her book bag and decided to get a little reading under her belt. She turned over on her side and began to read, not long after her drowsiness crept up on her and she fell into a restless sleep.
After what felt like a few minutes she jolted awake, sweat drenched hair, heart pounding. She had the horrible dream again. About the wolfs chasing her around those forbidden forest. She could hear the elders voices running through her head, feeling the wolfs cold breath at her ankles, knowing any minute she was going to be wolf chow. She dared a look behind her and for her reward she was tackled by a large black wolf with intense green eyes. Then the wolf snarled and bit her neck, and that wasn't even the worst part. She could still hear the screams ringing in her ears. When the screaming had started she swore she recognized the screams. She rubbed her throat, looking at the alarm clock that read 3:22 am. There was also a blanket pooling at her waist, her mother must've snuck in and covered her up. God bless mothers. She sat up against her headboard with her black faux fur blanket drawn up to her shoulders, What a weird dream to have... She shook it off and decided to attempt to go back to sleep or at least stay under her warm covers. With her back to her tv she drowsily shut her eyes. after what felt like hours she finally fell asleep and this time she didn't dream of wolfs with green eyes.

As she very clumsily rolled out of her bed she narrowly missed a tiny fluffy kitten and earned a tiny mad meow. She looked down at her and shook her head, "did you sneak in when mom wasn't looking"? She got to her knees and scooping the little kitten into her arms, the small kitten nuzzled into her throat. The kitten began to purr as she opened her bedroom door, mom was at work and so was dad so she was home all alone. She sat her down on the kitchen floor where the kitten strangely sat obediently, must really want her food she thought to herself. She walked over to one of the cabinets and got out a can of meow mix, it was Avalon's favorite wet food. She scrapped it into the kittens bowl and walked off while the kitten ate her food. She walked into her room and got her phone off the charger and walked into the living room. She turned her phone on to get a text from violet, two to be exact. One was a very long apology about being sick and not being able to walk home together and the other was a very thought out,
" ARE YOU DEAD!?!?!"
She quickly texted back and said" no violet "
violet then preceded to text back and say,
"Well reply faster next time".with a ear to ear grin emoji.
Fey rolled her eyes and texted back,
"meet me at the park".
She sent back a thumbs up. setting her phone down on the coffee table she quickly showered and dressed in a pair of high waisted denim shorts with a cute maroon cotton shirt with brown flats. She slid on her zox band, and grabbed her bag. Walking towards the door she grabbed her house keys and phone and began her walk to the park. She sent a quick message to violet that said she was on her way to the park. The wind was picking up today sending her hair flying, she tried to smooth it down with no avail. Groaning in frustration she gave up. The wind started to sound like howling, was she hearing things? She shook her head and kept walking with a quicker pace.
As she reached the park she saw her best friend sitting on their bench, yes, they call it their bench. Its because this is where they had spent most of their free time, sitting on this little bench in front of the pond. Either reading or just talking. She stealthy walked over to her friend, as if to sneak up on her, that all went to hell when she tripped on a limb and sprawled onto the ground right beside her.
"You know you can't sneak up on me, nice try tho".
Fey looked up at her while blowing a piece of hair out of her face.
"I will get you one day".
"Probably not", she quipped in.
Fey scrambled to her feet and sat beside her best friend and looked out into the small little pond that they had become so accustomed to. She looked at her friend and said,
"I had the dream again".
