Jimmy. I saw him. He was laying on the floor. Drops of blood were falling out of his mouth. His eyes were closed and his breathing wasn't steady. I ran up to him.
"Jimmy, wake up." I sobbed. I felt more tears start falling down my face. Jake came up next to me. He felt Jimmy's pulse.
"He's ok." Jake said. Jake stood up and brushed his hands. "I'll lift him on the same horse as me and we'll get out of here." I looked up at Jake.
"No way. We are not going anywhere until Jimmy can stand up and steer a horse correctly." I demanded.
"Kit..." Jake started. I gave him one of my looks. "Fine, we'll stay for a while."
We waited a few hours. We had cleaned up the blood from the floor. We really didn't know what else to do.
"Kit I think we should go." Jake insisted again. I looked back at Jimmy again.
"I want to go too Jake, but what if they come after us? Or our enemies at war come?-"
"We are at war!?" Jake exclaimed. I explained this whole war thing. Jake said nothing for a few more minutes. "Geez what can happen in two years." Jake whispered after a few more minutes.
We sat in silence. Jimmy started stirring. I rushed by him and started slapping his face.
"Jimmy get up." I exclaimed. Jimmy opened his eyes and brushed my hand away.
"Nice to see you too Nina." Jimmy whispered. I slapped his face.
"You weren't even suppose to go on that trip!" I yelled at him. "If you ever disappear again like that I'm going to start punching you next!"
"It was kina unplanned." Jimmy muttered. I hugged him tight.
"I missed you so much Jimmy." I whispered as I hugged him tighter. Jake came up to Jimmy and helped him up.
"Good to see you too Jim." Jake said.
"Had been awhile Jack-In-The-Box" Jimmy joked.
"Ha, ha. Don't call me that." Jake said. We caught each other up on what happened in two years.
"Now, for the sake of our life's can we please get out of here?" Jake begged.
"Please." Jimmy agreed. They both looked at me.
"What it isn't my fault we are here." I said. Both of them rolled their eyes. Boys, I thought. We started walking, but Jimmy stopped.
"Wait guys!" Jimmy called. He stopped short. Both me and Jake turned around at the same time. Jimmy's left foot was chained up in chains.
"Which key was it? Silver or bronze?" Jake asked.
"Silver." I replied. Jake took the silver key out and put it in the key hole. With a big click, the chains fell of Jimmy.
"Now, we can go." Jake said. Sure enough there was a back door in the room like the man had said. We opened the door to find five scrawny, starved, and tired horses. "These aren't the good horses they have." Was all Jake said. I started petting the first one. A grey mare. Her eyes were alert, but steady.
"We can't leave them like this." I said.
"Grab the first three and lets get out of here." Jake said. I crossed my arms and faced Jake.
"And the other two?" I asked.
"Stay with their owners in peace." Jake said as he tacked up a black stallion.
"I'm with Nina." Jimmy said. "We can't leave the other two horses here." Jake took a deep breath.
"Guys we need to get out of here as fast as possible. We already lost a few hours waiting on Jimmy. We are pushing our luck." Jake insisted.
"I'm sorry Jake," I said. "but I'm not leaving without all five horses."
"And I'm not leaving without Nina." Jimmy said. Jake looked at Jimmy then me. Back at Jimmy and then at me.
"Fine," Jake finally said. "get the horses water and food. Tack them up and run we are leaving. But you two have to figure out how the other two are coming along." Jake sat on some bags of cracked corn and closed his eyes.
"Get the water." I told Jimmy. Little by little we did all what Jake had told us to do. We tied the other two horses to Jimmy's and my horses with a long rope. The would walk next to each other, but still have a personal bubble as Jimmy called it.
"Come on Jake! Let's go." I called. The horses were all ready. Jake said nothing. I went to him and saw that he was asleep. His eyes had huge bags under them, probably he hadn't slept in a while. "Jimmy, untie the horses and put them back. We're going to spend a few hours here." I said. Jimmy looked at me and Jake, but asked no questions. "Good night Big Kit." I whispered to Jake.
By now, I should probably back up and tell you all these nicknames and such. I have two nicknames, Kit and Nina. Jim has one, Jimmy. Jake had twoish. When Jimmy wants to make a joke or make fun of Jake he calls him Jack-In-The-Box. Why? I'm not sure. The other one is from me, Big Kit. I started calling Jim Jimmy because I thought Jim sounded too old, when I was little. It stuck. Jimmy calls me Nina, because when he was little he couldn't say Mina, only Nina. It stuck. Now this whole Kit thing. Jake calls me Kit. He's called me it forever. How it came to be, I don't remember, I've only heard Jake tell me it. The story is that when I was a baby the only word I would say sounded like Kit. I kept saying it over and over. Jake started repeating after me, and at one point he just called me Kit. Maybe when I was one or two I started calling Jake Big Kit. I stopped when I was around five. I always remembered it, but I haven't called Jake Big Kit since then. Well, until now.
We waited a few hours. Jimmy and I took turns sleeping. Each an hours or so and then we switched. We decided to wait until Jake got up to start moving again, then we heard noises. I couldn't here what ever Jimmy was saying because of all the noise.
"Jimmy block the door!" I yelled. The stomping got louder and screaming and yelling was in the next room. Jimmy scrambled to find anything heavy enough to block the door. I started shaking Jake crazy. "Jake! Get up!" His eyes flew open. "Lead the horses into the next room!" I yelled at him. I dragged bags of corn in front of the door. Jimmy was doing the same. The doors were being pounded on, the ground shook. The door frame was loosening.
"Jake..." Jimmy warned. I turned around. Jake was in the next room. Weapons were around his wast and on the horses. Jake was leading the last horse into the trap doors, that thankfully had stairs. Jimmy took my hand and pulled me toward Jake. "We don't have time Nina!" He yelled. "In. In." Jimmy shouted at me. I fell into the darkness. Jimmy right behind me. Jake slammed the door behind him and fell right on top of us.
The horses were thankfully more ahead, so we didn't fall on or scare any of them. I hit my head really hard, and then both of my brothers fell on top of me. Black dots formed in my vision. Jake and Jimmy got off me. Jake picked me up.
"Kit, what's wrong?" He asked. I couldn't respond, because my head got heaver and my mind went blank.
