Not So Perfect Styles

Chapter 1

"Happy Birthday Avery!!" I woke up from my sleep to see my two best friends Hanna, and Michelle holding up a little,chocolate cupcake with a lit candle. Yup, it was my 19th birthday. I'm not really big when it comes to birthdays- I usually just sit home from school and watch movies all day. Thanks to my luck my birthday always landed on a week day, but finally now that had graduated from school I could be free!

"C'mon make a wish!" Hanna practically whined. I am not a morning person at all considering its only 8:30 in the morning. I sat up and stretched my arms, and blew out my candle

"What did you wish for?" Michelle asked

I looked up at her and rolled my eyes. "More sleep." 

We all chuckled. I really did want more sleep- just one more hour would have been perfect.

What I really wished for was for tonight to be a good night and not a total disaster. 

Michelle and Hanna planned to take me to a party tonight. Parties aren't really my thing; I have been to a few before but nothing I would want to do often. All there is at parties is a bunch of drunk people who stumble around or practically dry hump other people whenever they get the chance.

But tonight would be different, I would make it special. Hanna and Mich already promised that they would take me to the mall to buy a cute new dress for tonight, considering the fact that all the dresses I own now belong in a mom's closet. Maybe I could get some new shoes too, and maybe-

"Hey Ave, I heard that Blake is going to be at the party tonight," Hanna said with a mischievous tone, interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh, cool I guess," I said, trying to play it off like I didn't care. I definitely cared. Blake was not only the hottest boy in the entire universe, but the nicest too. And the funniest. And the most athletic. Well, pretty much he was just the definition of perfect. And tonight I was finally going to make him notice me.

"'Oh cool'? Really Ave? C'mon I know you care. Yeah. You're blushing I can totally see it." Michelle said, laughing to herself.

I simply stood up out of my bed and headed to my closet while trying to hide my face which was, of course, as red as a tomato. I picked through the clothes until I settled on simple bluejeans and a white Beatles shirt. "I hope you know that both of you are coming to the mall with me right after I get ready," I mubmle. They both just smiled and said okay. I walked to my mirror and used my fingers to brush through my sandy blonde hair that fell in waves all the way down my back. It was definitely getting to long, I thought, I'll cut it soon,

Soon enough we had pulled into the parking garage of the Cheshire Mall. It was nice that Hanna parked her car under a roof because if there was one thing that England was known for, it was the rain. And I don't mind the rain at all, but I don't necessarily like driving in it. The rain for me held memories of happier times. I remember spending time with my mom in the rain- jumping in puddles and getting my hair soaking wet. Those days were blurry now, but I can remember the smell of the rain hitting the asphalt, and the sound of the droplets on the roof. A sad smile played across my face, but I quickly wiped it off knowing that Hanna and Mich were giving me funny looks.

We made our way through the mall, pointing out cute sweaters and shoes as we tried to find our favorite little boutique. The owner of Silk Rain, Mary, was the nicest woman on earth, and she always gave me and my friends a discount off of her clothing. The bell chimed as we entered the store and were greeted by the always-smiling Mary.

"Girls!" She said with a smile, "How are you? It's been ages since you were here! Do you need something special?"

"It's Avery's birthday," Mich almost yelled, "She needs a dress so she can look smokin' hot for the boys!" I hit her softly on the arm after that last comment.

"Avery, darling, you never said it was your birthday!" Mary cried, "Here, I'll go look for a few dresses, you girls can just sit down and relax."

Hanna and Michelle took a seat on the couches Mary has set up by the door. "Follow me Avery I think I have a couple of selections I know you might fancy." 

I followed Mary as we walked to the back of the shop.

"Stand here and I will get you just what you need." Mary smiled and disappeared behind some curtains which I'm guessing were for 'Employees Only'. I wondered how I should do my hair for tonight- curl It or straighten it? I guess it depends whether it would go good with the dress. I didn't plan on really going all out on my makeup, I'm not really a makeup person I just go for the casual look; Mascara, eyeliner, blush, and lip gloss.

"Ah here we are darling I got you a couple you can chose from witch I think would look amazing on you." Mary pulled out a rack with a couple of dresses hanging. I think its really sweet she took her time selecting dresses personally for me. Scanning through the selection I found one that caught my eye immediately.

A sleeveless baby blue dress that ends about mid thigh. I think would be perfect to wear especially I just got some new nude heels I can wear to go with it. Yeah, i think I'm going to curl my hair. The dress is just absolutely beautiful just looking at it and imaging myself in it makes a smile appear across my face.

"I see you found yourself a dress. It is a pretty dress and I know, you in it will make it beautiful." Mary clapped her hand together in excitement. "Thank you I do really like it, I'm going to take it." I smiled bright while looking at it one more time. "Ok come on over so I can ring you."

"Since its your birthday I'll give it to you for cheap, $20" My mouth fell to the ground. $20 dollars? $20 freaking dollars? My birthday was going great so far. I pulled out a $20 bill and handed it to her. "Thank you so much Mary I promise I will come by soon again"

"Anytime sweetheart happy birthday see you soon! Bye girls." Mary waved at us as we left the store and headed out the mall and to the car.
