Kara (Jamie’s mum)

I am such a terrible parent, I keep secrets from my only daughter: I have a deadly disease,

the doctors have only given me a few months to live. My husband, Mark, knows about this and considered committing suicide just to stay with me.

“What about Jamie?” I asked. My daughter always comes first. Mark looked up ‘SECRET ADOPTION’ on GOOGLE. A tonne of suggestions came up. I clicked on the top result because it had most views and likes. The website said you could do whatever you want. We both agreed to it and got to work.

Jamie-Leigh. *NEXT MORNING*

I woke up at 10 AM and went into the sitting room. Mum and dad were cuddling on the sofa, fast asleep. I went into the kitchen to get a drink. All of a sudden, the phone rang, giving me a shock. I picked it up.

(Phone convo J= Jamie. S= stranger. M= mum)

J- Hello?

S- hello, is this Kara Blacksmith?

J- No sorry, she’s asleep. This is her daughter, Jamie- Leigh. Can I take a message.

S- Hi Jamie, my name is Liam. Can you tell your mam to call me back when she wakes up?

J- Hang on, she’s just woken up. I’ll put her on for you.

S- Ok thank you.

M- Hello?

S- Hi, Mrs Blacksmith? I was wondering about the adoption.

M- Oh yes, her name is Jamie, she is 7 years old and she is really energetic, funny and adorable.

S- You live in the U.K right?

M- Yeah.

S- Is it ok me and my 4 mates come together to have a look?

M- Yeah. I’ve got a question. Are you Liam Payne from One Direction?

L- Yes I am. Why?

M- Jamie loves One Direction.

L- It’ll be nice.

M- Ok. So do you want to come over tonight a 7:30?

L- Is it ok with you?

M- Yeah, It’s fine.

L- Right, I’ll see you then.

M-Ok, bye.

(END OF PHONE CONVO)

STILL JAMIE.

Mum sent me to bed at 6: 30, she said she had some ‘ important business’ to take care of. I sighed and cuddled into my Build-A-Bear. I hummed OVER AGAIN to myself and soon enough, I fell asleep.

LIAM

The other day I seen a flyer about a secret adoption.

“PLEASE ADOPT MY LITTLE GIRL, JAMIE- LIEGH, I HAVE A DEADLY DISEASE THAT WILL KILL ME IN A MATTER OF MONTHS. MY HUSBAND, MARK, AND I HAVE BOTH AGREED THAT IT WOULD BE BEST FOR JAMIE IF IS SHE WAS NOT AROUND. PLEASE CALL **** ******* AND ARRANGE A TIME AND DATE.

I read it over and over and over again. I pick up my phone and dialled the number.

(Phone convo J= Jamie. L= Liam. M= mum)

J- Hello?

L- hello, is this Kara Blacksmith?

J- No sorry, she’s asleep. This is her daughter, Jamie- Leigh. Can I take a message.

L- Hi Jamie, my name is Liam. Can you tell your mam to call me back when she wakes up?

J- Hang on, she’s just woken up. I’ll put her on for you.

L- Ok thank you.

M- Hello?

S- Hi, Mrs Blacksmith? I was wondering about the adoption.

(END OF PHONE CONVO)

I walked home to get the boys.

“BOYS. GET IN HERE.” I yelled. Seconds later, the boys came tumbling in.

“Hi li, what’s up.” Louis asked cheerfully as usual.

“Well lads, I’ve decided to adopt.” They stood there, gobsmacked.

“I was walking back here, when I came across a poster stapled to a tree. It said something about a lady who had a life- shortening disease. She has a little daughter called Jamie- Leigh but doesn’t want Jamie to be around when she is dying. So I’ve spoken to Kara, the lady, and she said we can go down tonight. BUT Jamie will be asleep so keep quiet.” They nodded and went to get showered.

Jamie

“Jamie, I’m having friends over tonight so I need you to be in bed by 7:00. Ok?”

“Yes mummy.” We had a lazy day which included; mummy and daddy telling me how much they loved me, cuddles, kisses and lots of treats. Like McDonalds, Build- A- Bear and Claire’s Accessories. I had a great day. But sadly, it had to come to an end. By the time 7 rolled around, I’d had a shower, was in my One Direction onsie, bed socks, had my hair in a ponytail and had my One Direction themed Build- A- Bear. Mummy and daddy tucked me into bed, flicked on my nightlight and left. I slowly drifted off to sleep.
