Chapter Four:
And I'll Cry If I Want To

| one week later

The light chime of the doorbell could be heard throughout the entire house, making Jacob practically leap from his bed with joy, already knowing who it was. He was wearing a cute, salmon-pink oversized sweater and white knee socks, and his hair was pulled back with a floral-patterned scrunchie.

With his teddy bear securely in his arms, Jacob excitedly scampered down the stairs (careful not to slip since he was slightly clumsy) until he was in front of the door. Without hesitation, Jacob swung the door open and his eyes instantly went wide at the person standing on his porch.

"Hi, Chris!" Jacob beamed before hugging the boy tightly, his teddy bear already forgotten.

Chresanto rolled his eyes fondly. He still found the strawberry-scented boy's abundant bubbliness annoying, but was slowly getting used to it.

"Hey, Jacob."

Throughout the following week after their first embrace, both boys were almost inseparable. They would now sit by each other during classes and lunch, and acknowledged one another in the hallways. Unfortunately for Jacob, they never could hang out outside of school, due to Chresanto always having basketball practice. And unfortunately for Chresanto, they couldn't see each other in the morning before school because Jacob rode an early bus, and would always shyly decline his offer to drive him to school.

Overall, Chresanto and Jacob had a really great friendship so far.

But of course, Chresanto's friends weren't too fond of their friendship. They'd given them both weird glares this whole week, mostly at Chresanto. Rayan even childishly harassed Chresanto one afternoon after school, marching up to his house and demanding, "Bro, it's either us, or the fairy. Choose one."

And that was easy for Chresanto to answer.

"Well, obviously I'm picking Jacob."

"Well, obviously we're not friends no more."

"We are friends, dude. But I'm also friends with Jacob, too."

"You trippin', bro. Jacob is a freakin' weirdo."

"Why? Because of the way he dresses?"

"...Yes."

"Grow the fuck up, Ray."

And that was that.

Rayan and the others intentionally kept their distance, and Chresanto could care less. They were never his real friends anyway if they couldn't accept him for being around Jacob.

"Chresanto, guess what?!"

Chresanto watched Jacob merrily scurry to the middle of the living-room, flopping his sleeves that overlapped his hands. "What?" Chresanto chuckled.

"Nothing, I'm just glad that you're here," Jacob admitted, shyly looking down with a small smile at the floor that was flooded with balloons.

Yes, Jacob threw a party again, but this one didn't have extravagant decorations like the last. There were only black and white balloons and some stuffed animals on the couch, and a tray full of a dozen vanilla cupcakes with periwinkle-blue icing on the coffee table.

Though there were very few decorations, everything still looked on point.

Chresanto smiled warmly. "I'm glad you invited me this time."

Jacob blushed, glancing up at the boy. He was wearing a black fitted muscle shirt, grey jeans and some black Adidas. The muscle shirt clung to Chresanto's chest a bit, and it showed off his defined shoulders and beautifully toned, bronzed arms.

Jacob's blush inflamed even deeper, mentally slapping himself for finding Chresanto attractive, but Jacob had always thought he was attractive, now even more since he'd gotten to know him.

In the midst of Jacob's bashful state, Chresanto took the opportunity to scoop the shorter boy by the waist, easily holding him up in the air and spinning them both in circles. Jacob immediately burst into a fit of giggles and Chresanto absolutely adored the sound. He was beginning to adore a lot of things about Jacob lately.

Jacob cutely kicked his legs about, begging for Chresanto to put him down through his laughter. Chresanto only let out a loud laugh in response before finally plopping Jacob onto the couch and began poking his tummy, making the curly-haired boy squeal and giggle even further.

After Jacob tried swatting his tickles away multiple times unsuccessfully, Chresanto finally gave him a break, placing his hands on either side of Jacob's head for support. Jacob giggled a bit more while trying to catch his breath, wrapping his gentle fingers around Chresanto's biceps. A chill ran up Chresanto's spine at the touch.

"I've made you laugh so much, now you're in tears," Chresanto recognized playfully with a low chuckle.

Jacob blinked his eyes at him, realizing that there were tears prickling them. But they weren't tears of sadness like they usually were. They were of...happiness. Pure happiness. Jacob's heart leaped at this feeling as he smiled. "Well, this is a pity party, so it's okay to cry," he joked lightly.

"It's not really a pity party if you're happy right now," Chresanto advised smoothly, face merely inches from Jacob's.

Jacob blushed for the umpteenth time, letting a tiny tear roll down the side of his face before innocently giving Chresanto a soft kiss to his cheek, earning fake gag noises and a playful push to the shoulder from his best friend.

"Yeah, I guess you're right."
