Box

There was once a box.

It was small,

and had bruises on the sides.

The box traveled from the east to the far west.

The box hoped that someone would open it.

But no one opened that box.

For days the box laid there,

waiting for someone to open it.

For weeks the box watched

the dark cloud of society walk by.

It was invisible.

Ignored.

The box grew more and more dented everyday.

However,

on a promising day,

the box was opened

by a generous individual

who stepped out of the prejudice of society

and accepted the gift that the box had so wanted to offer.

Her friendship.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I wrote this poem, I was thinking about the prejudice and discrimination in our society. Both of these things are everywhere, but we must be the ones to step out of the crowd and take each others' hands. A single person can take a difference in someone's life, but it takes a world to change the world.
