Adelaide twitched in her seat while her younger brother slept calmly in her lap. Adelaide and Kyler have been sent from one foster home to the next, for the past ten years. Neither of them could remember their parents. Kyler was almost one when their house was set on fire.
They both made it out, but not their parents.
Both kids were inseperable, they looked out for each other. Kyler was Addy's only friend, since she couldn't make friends at any schools due to her twitching and odd looks.
She was finally going to be homeschooled at their new home, somebody had adopted them both. Kyler was going to go to public school since he had a better chance of making friends.
He slept uncomfortably because of his sisters twitching, he was the only person who called her Addy. His dreams were filled with hope of a second chance to have a forever home.
"Wake up Kyler," Addy said shaking him roughly. "Its time to go!"
"Cafeful, I don't want to fall off." Kyler mumbled rubbing his eyes, he sat up and grabbed his stuff. They both were excited to meet their new care taker. There was a loud popping noise that came Addy's neck.
All of their foster parents hated the popping noises and twitches that Addy had. That's one of the reasons they never stayed at one house for over a month. The other children called her zombie because of her sickly look, with her grayish skin and a paranoid look in her eyes. She had messy dark brown hair and amber eyes.
Kyler was the opposite, his skin had a light tan and was your average ten-year-old boy. His eyes were green and he had almost ginger hair. One of the office assistants, her name was Mary, walked in to take them to their care taker.
"I'm glad both of you could finally find a good home," Mary said looking back to make sure they were still follow her.
"Me too. I'm really excited!" Addy said twitching excitedly.
"Calm down Adelaide," Mary chuckled, "You don't want to hurt yourself."
"Don't worry, I wont be able to feel it any way." Addy replied stretching, then almost tripping after her foot twitched.
"Are you okay?" Kyler asked worried that one day that she might die from her ability to not feel pain.
"Yep, I feel 80% today."
"That's better than the usual, 60%. I'm glad that the new medicine is working." replied Mary opening the doors to front check in office.
"Me too, I guess." Addy mumbled and walked into the front office. Kyler followed cautiously, and saw that the sun was setting. There was a middle aged couple waiting there. He guessed that they were here for them since they were the only people there.
The couple got up and smiled and made their way over to them.
"These are your new parents, Mr. and Mrs. Collins." Mary said shutting the door behind her. Kyler noticed that they didn't react to Addy's pops and twitches. Instead they came up and hugged Addy.
Mr. Collins gestured for Kyler to join in the group hug. Kyler felt welcome in everyone's embrace. For once he finally felt like he had a real family.
"Let's get going shall we," Mr. Collins said "We have a long three hour drive until we get home."
Addy nodded. Both kids waved good-bye to Mary and followed Mr. and Mrs. Collins out the door to the car. Both kids were excited to reach their new home.
