by trying not to lose you.

by trying not to lose you,

I lost you to the hands of another,

ones that never held you,

as mine are losing hold,

you are slipping through my finger,

and someone else has caught you.

as someone else now holds you,

because I let you go.

I have fought for a lost cause,

far to many times,

and now its time,

to let you go,

and,

I know that you wont come home.

for years and years to come,

i'll fall asleep waiting by the door,

leaving it unlocked,

and the windows open.

and one day it will hit me,

that you're not coming home,

because the leash I've had you on,

became to tight,

and you broke free.

i'll never forget you,

for you at one point,

were all of me,

and come to think of it,

you always will be.
