The girl peered cautiously around an old sturdy oak, her straight chestnut brown hair tucked into a practical braid which was gently swaying back and forth from the slight breeze that had suddenly come up. She could hear the obnoxious comments and boisterous laughter coming from the small clearing in the woods, she studied it carefully noting each of the eleven mens faces bathed in light from the bonfire. After hearing enough dirty jokes to make her stomach turn in disgust she decided to waste no more time. With a quick movement she pulled a long bow made of dark glossy wood from her back, it was her favorite thing in the world. She smirked, how funny is that? I like weapons more than people she thought with a sarcastic smile to herself. Snapping back to reality she pulled a feathered arrow of the same color as the wood of her bow out of the quiver and pulled it taut in the bow ready to shoot.
The sound of a twig crunching to her right startled her, she relaxed the bow retreating further into the shadow of the tree. staring into the darkness straining her eyes for any movement she heard another small sound. A rustle, from the bush to her right. Without hesitation she shifted slightly into a crouch and ran quickly behind a tree directly behind the bush. She peeked around carefully, spotting two men that must be from the group in the clearing, who were pissing in the bush and muttering to each other about something probably not important. Swiftly she raised the bow again pulling out the arrow again and taking aim at the closer mans head, letting her arrow fly with a slight "twang" sound from the bow the arrow found its mark in the back of his skull. In the same moment with one fluid motion she pulled out a second arrow and pierced the second man in the chest before he could make a sound. The second man collapsed on top of the first. She approached the men ignoring the gurgling sound coming from the second mans throat and took a firm grip of the arrow in his chest yanking it out with a brutal flesh tearing sound. The man jerked violently before drawing a final breath and becoming still. She did the same to the second man freeing the arrow from his skull and wiping both off in disgust before returning them to the quiver. After searching them and finding nothing of interest but a bit of gold, she crouched again running silently to the tree she was at a few moments before, waiting for an oportunity to arise.
After about ten minutes, she was growing impatient, her glittering green eyes narrowed in displeasure at having to wait. Deciding to get it done with now, she decided on her handgun as choice of weapon for the job at hand. Unholstering it, She got down on one knee to steady herself from the recoil she took aim at the first mans head sitting by the fire, she waited for half a second before pulling the trigger, a loud bang filling the air. The other men looked around in confusion for a moment not realizing what was happening around them, giving her another chance to shoot. She took out four men before they had enough common sense to take cover behind the trees in the clearing. She waited keeping her gun up ready to shoot at any moment. After waiting a moment her radio made a slight buzzing sound. Keeping her gun pointed at the clearing she reached for her radio.
-bzzt- static .... "hei....Heidi you there?" a male voice called to her. "Elliot! Im here. Where is everyone? I need backup now."
"Were on our way. Were on the north side of the clearing now."
"No! Elliot ! that side of the clearing is not safe." She waited but his voice didnt respond to her.
After or so five minutes she saw a figure walking quickly into the clearing. Tensing up, Heidi expected Elliot to be ambushed by the men, but when nothing happened she relaxed her gun arm cautiously making her way forward to the edge of the clearing. Keeping her gun in her hand she made her way to Elliot, nervous eyes darting around every inch of the clearing and the surrounding woods. They were empty. How had they got away without her noticing anything? She glanced around skeptically again making sure they were gone, and caught the shadow of something up in a tree behind Elliots head. Looking closely a shape took form in the shadows. A cat stretched lazily on a slender branch of the tree staring right at her. Startled she stared at it, a wide strange grin appearing on his face. "Heidi... Heidi!" She brought her attention back to Elliot who had been speaking to her the entire time. "What?"
He sighed in frustration, "I said we should get moving, hunt down the men that escaped." He said with a tired expression as he turned his back on me moving away to the bonfire seeing if the men had left anything behind i assumed. I glanced up to see if the odd cat was still there. He was. I gazed at him transfixed by his eyes and smile. Suddenly the grin disappeared and she saw his eyes flicker behind her for a moment, and with a swish of his long tail, the entire cat was gone.
"Strange." Heidi muttered just before a hard object hit her upside the head, knocking her unconcious.
