I am not a slut.
At least, that what I kept telling myself as I stood from whoever's bed I had slept in last night to gather my clothes.
Once I was dressed, I grabbed my phone and keys before slipping on my discarded shoes, not bothering to see who I'd spent the night with.
As I opened the bedroom door, I looked around the hallway before stepping out and closing the door softly behind me.
As I stepped out of the front door - which hadn't been that hard to find- I clicked my phone on.
37 missed calls- Mom
"Perfect," I sighed, clicking her name to call her back.
She picked up on the second ring.
"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU, LUKE?!"
I winced; my mother only raised her voice when she was very angry.
"I just stayed the night at Jackson's," I lied smoothly. That was my normal excuse for whenever I'd fallen asleep after sex with someone I'd just met. Sometimes they weren't even strangers; I had slept with the girl who sat next to me in biology once, simply because she'd asked me to.
I heard mom sigh from the other end of the phone. "You've forgotten what today is, haven't you." It wasn't a question. I normally forgot important things if someone didn't remind him.
"What's today?" I asked.
"We're going to pick up the Langstons from the airport; their flight lands in an hour." she replied.
I frowned; the airport was at least two hours away. "If they land in and hour than why aren't you on your way to get them?"
Looking at the street sign on the corner by the house I'd just exited, I turned left.
I was a couple blocks from my own house.
"What makes you think we haven't already left?" my mother asked incredulously, raising her voice again slightly.
I didn't have an answer, so I remained silent.
When me mom realized that I wasn't going to say anymore, she continued to talk. "Just get home and make sure everything's good for when we get back with the Langston's. You'll be sharing your room with Mo, so make sure you've enough blankets for the two of you."
My heart stumbled a bit when she mentioned Mo.
"Don't they have their own house?" I had tried to keep all the strain out of my voice, but it was hard.
Once again, mom signed. "They still have a week to go before they can move back in; the people aren't done spraying the house yet."
Closing my eyes and rubbing my temples, I stood still for a moment.
Monroe Langston; the closest thing to a brother I had ever had. Straighter than a pole ,too, unfortunately.
While I had been having my moment, mom had hung up. I slipped my phone into my pocket and resumed the walk home.
I knew it really wasn't my place to judge others on what they did behind closed doors- since I was quite familiar with the normal routine that wen on by now- but whenever I remembered that Monroe would never look at me in any way even remotely romantic, my heart just sank a little further into my chest.
