Part One: I’ll be home for Christmas

Merlin’s POV

I chucked my bag over my shoulder realising I probably had too much stuff with me to go home for Christmas since I would only be gone from Camelot a week at best. I am returning to Ealdor for Christmas. I’m only going to be away from Camelot and Arthur a week, so I could rely on the knights of Camelot and Gaius to look after the prat.

It’s been too long since I have seen my mother and Arthur is allowing me to have the time to go visit her, so I am taking it. I made sure I had everything I needed before I left my chamber. I found Gaius preparing me some food.

“This should keep you going, until you reach Ealdor. I am going to miss you my boy,” smiled Gaius.

“It’s just a week. It be over before you know it,” I said.

“I know you deserve to get away from Camelot and be with your mother. I will miss you. I’m use to you being here at Christmas. Merlin, promise me you will be safe,” smiled Gaius.

“There is nothing to worry about, Gaius. I will return safe and sound. I’ll give you my kind regards to my mother,” I smiled.

“Oh and give her this for me please. I’ll give you your present when you return. I want it to be with you when you open it,” Gaius grinned.

“Ok. I better get going.”

“Goodbye, Merlin. Have a wonderful Christmas.”

“Thanks, you too,” I said as we both hugged each other before I put the present in my bag which Gaius had just given me.

I left the chamber after that heading towards the stables. The time arrived I found Gwaine, Lancelot, Gwen and to my shock Arthur waiting for me.

“We set your horse up for you, Merlin. It should get you there in perfect shape,” smiled Gwaine.

“Thank you. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas,” I said to them as I began to tie my bag to the horse.

“We will miss you, Merlin,” said Gwen as she came over and brought me into a huge hug.

“I’ll miss you too,” I said as we pulled apart but only to be brought into a hug by Lancelot and then Gwaine. After that all three of them left, leaving me and Arthur on our own.

“Thanks, Arthur for allowing me the time off,” I said.

“You deserve it, Merlin. You may be an idiot and clumsy but you are a loyal servant and are always here when I need you.”

“Are you going to miss me?” I asked.

“What would give you that idea? I will miss my room not being clean and no one to clean my armour,” grinned Arthur.
