Merlin’s POV

I set up camp that night knowing by tomorrow evening I would be within Ealdor with my mother. I set a fire so I could cook some soup which Gaius had already made up for me; I just had to cook it. I set the fire alight with my magic since no one is around.

Once the soup was cooked I began to eat it. After a couple of spoonfuls I heard whispering nearby and not long after a strange looking creature jumped through the trees towards me. I rushed to my feet dropping my bowl of soup and raising my hand saying a spell.

The fire shot towards the creature but only to bounce back straight towards me which I simply knocked away without saying anything watching the fire hit the tree but going out straight away as I had not used a very powerful spell.

I watched the creature as it approached me now more slowly. I looked closer to come to the conclusion this is not a real creature. It’s been summoned by someone who has to have a certain amount of magic to do such a thing. “Who is there?” I said loudly.

The forest stayed still apart from the creature still coming towards me making a noise every time it stepped on a leaf.  It being winter meant it is cold outside and being away from the fire I began to feel it.

I closed my eyes trying to feel the power coming from the creature. I opened my eyes putting my hand out and quickly said a spell which hit the creature and made it completely disappear.

“You have to do better than that!” I shouted. I had no idea if who summoned the creature is still hear but I had to insure that maybe he or she had ran for it.

I scanned the area to find no one nearby. I went back to the fire and poured out another bowl of soup for myself and I began to eat it again. I managed to eat the whole lot before I cleaned up my stuff and stuck it all back in the bag apart from my blanket which I needed to sleep with.

I lied down with the blanket before closing my eyes. It didn’t take me long to fall asleep.

Boss’s POV

“He saw straight through the creature,” said Andy.

“I saw that. This is not as fun as I had planned it would be but at least he used his magic to stop it. I’ve had enough.”

“Are we going to just be on our horses all night, I’m tired,” said one of my men.

“Like I care,” I said as I went to pull my dagger out again but the man looked like he was ready for it.

“Sorry boss but I’m stating the truth,” he said to me.

“I suppose you are right about that. He’ll be a sleep soon and then we strike,” I hissed before laughing.

Arthur’s POV

It’s the day before Christmas Eve. I miss Merlin like Crazy. I miss his banter. I’m sitting at my desk as I’m not sure what to do until later on when we have the feast. By tomorrow afternoon’s feast I probably put on weight and that give Merlin a lot to banter about when he gets back. I grinned, that made me feel happy.

A knock came at the door and in came a servant looking slightly worried. A letter is hanging from her hand and she came over to me and gave it to me. “I’m sorry,” she cried before she left again. What is that about?

I looked at the letter before I opened it and it said this.

Dear Arthur

I hope you and everyone else is well and having a wonderful Christmas. I would send a letter to Gaius but as I have not spoken to you in a while I thought I’ll send this to you. Merlin never showed up but I am not sure why. Did he decide to stay within Camelot for Christmas because he will miss Gaius and you too much? I need to know as I am worried about Merlin, a lot. It’s not like him to cancel and not tell me so please let me know as soon as you can. I do hope you have a wonderful Christmas and be blessed.
