"Let's just... Go", I said, pointing in front of us toward the haunted house, "Cole's probably waiting," I tried walking off without letting him answer, but he grabbed my wrist and spun me around to face him. I jumped, startled by his sudden movements.
"I really am sorry, Anna, I don't want you to be mad or anything," Nik said, casting his eyes downward, yet again.
"I-I-I'm not m-m-mad, Nik," breath in. Breath out. "I'm really not. It's fine. Let's just go. I wanna go back."
He sighed. "How about I just call Cole? He can meet us by the front. It's getting late, anyway." I nodded, just wanting to leave and bury myself beneath my big comfoter, yelling at myself in my head. But, I knew, I couldn't do that tonight. That was for tomorrow.
Niklas called his brother while I found the nearest bench to sit down on. I pulled out my phone and turned it on. 5 missed calls. 3 from Kim, 2 from Scott. 16 messages. 8 from Kim, 4 from Scott, and 4 from other various people. 1 being from Jon. God, what does that bitch want? I checked them all, telling Kim and Scott I'm fine and I'll be home tomorrow. I don't check Jon's, I don't want to deal with him anymore.
"Hey sweetie pie," A voice behind me said while something covered my eyes. "Guess who?" I jumped, the quick actions startling me, until I realized who it was.
"God Cole, you're such an ass. I fucking hate you!" I screamed, turning my body around to face him.
This time it was his turn to jump, my quick actions startling him.
"Told you she's mean today," Nik says, coming out from behind Cole. "Probably PMS-ing," he mumbles.
My mouth hung open in shock. I hate it when guys always think you're mad or cranky because you're on your period. A girl has the right to be mad when she wants. Grrrr.
I snapped my mouth shut and glared at them. If looks could kill I'm pretty sure they would be dead 10 times over. If only my jedi powers were working...
"I am most definatly NOT on my period, you freak!"
"Where's the proof, honey-buns?" Cole asks.
"God Cole, you are such a pervert! I swear next time you say something like that I will slap you across your pretty little face. Understood?" Cole nods. "Good. God you two are such idiots," I start to walk towards the entrance/exit to the park, pushing past the boys who were still in a bit of shock. I'm not usually mad or anything towards them, just annoyed.
I hear the boys behind me, mumbling to each other and shuffling their feet.
----------------
"Damn it Cole, where's the fucking car?!?!" We had been walking around the parking lot for a bit searching for the guy's car. It felt like we had been out here for hours, and I was chilled to the bone. I didn't bring a coat and I was just wearing a hoodie and a pair of leggings. At least I had my bearpaws.
"I don't know! I wasn't paying any attention! You should have looked!" Cole retorted.
"Yeah, because it's obviously my job to know where your dumbass car is!"
"It has your stuff in it!'
"Just my fucking backpack and overnight bag! It's jammed full of your shit!"
"Well you could have at least looked up to see what row!"
"Yea, obviously because I'm the woman, and I should take care of everything."
"Well, duh!"
"Oh, you sexist little..."
And on it went. Until Niklas was smart enough to speak up.
"Guys," we kept going at each other, barely noticing he spoke. "GUYS!" we turned to look at him. "I know where it is," he said sheepishly. "But before you yell at me, remember you barely gave me time to speak."
And that was it. It was like a giant bomb went off. Cole yelling at him and me pretty much just saying profanity after profanity, spitting out insults. Nik just stared at us, amused, making the abuse even worse on him.
"Well where is it!?" I finally managed to get out.
"C 27," C 27!?!?!? And he didn't say this sooner? We were at H 34. Fucking H 34!!! Did he know hiw far that was????
"Fuck. You," Nik just smirked when I flipped him off. "You realize that means that you get to carry me right? You made me walk this far without saying anything and I'm NOT walking all the way back," I smirk up at Nik, his grin falling off as he processes what I said. I start laughing as his face twists into a scowl.
"Just get on," he says bitterly, crouching down so I can jump on his back.
--------------
Eventually we find Cole's car, all of us tired and frozen, and Nik puts me down so I can climb into the back seat and he finds his way to his spot in the front.
"NEVER do that to me again. You are such an ass," I say, while kicking Nik's seat from behind
"Ow! Anna don't kick, it hurts," Nik looks back at me, pouting.
I stick my tounge out at him. "If you don't want to be kicked, come back here with me. I need a pillow."
"Didn't you bring one?"
"To school? Of course," I smile. "Not."
He sighs.
"Only because you're my best friend," He climbs into the backseat
I smile, grabbing his arm and putting it around my shoulder, lay my head down onto his chest. I hear his heart thumping and smell his Old Spice. I feel like a child in my father's arms. Closing my eyes and wrapping my arms around him, I let my mind wander around the memories of my dad.
--------------------------
"Daddy!" The blonde little girl runs up to her father, wispy ponytails blowing behind her, eyes swollen and red, tears still leaking out, leaving shiny trails in their wake. "I missed you so much! Mommy is really mean. Why doesn't mommy like me anymore? Was I bad?"
The man lifts the child onto his hip, sqeazing her tightly. "I missed you too, baby girl," he whispers in her ear, purposely leaving out the answers about his wife's behavior.
"Daddy, why are you never home? Is mommy mean to you too? Did she hit you like she hits me? I don't like it when she hits me. I told her, but she just hits me harder. I wish mommy was like you," the four year-old rambles. "You would never hit me like mommy does, would you? Because that would be mean. And you are never mean. I love you daddy."
"I love you too," he says tears in his eyes. "I love you so much."
-------------------------------
"Anna, wake up," a voice from above me says.
"Daddy?" I sqeak out as my eyes flutter open. Just Nik. "Oh, sorry Nik, I was dreaming about my dad," tears brim my eyes at the recollection of that day, the last day I saw my father.
Where am I? I push myself up and take in my surroundings. A dark room. Yeah, that helps. As my eyes adjust to the dim, I can make out some things, including a wooden nightstand with an alarm reading 3:20 and dark blue fabric beneath my hands.
"Why are we in your room, Nik? I thought we were still in the car."
"Well, you were sleeping so peacefully, so I decided to just carry you in. I brought up your overnight bag too, if you want to change."
I mutter a thanks a push myself out of his queen-sized bed. After I locate my bag in the dark, I open his bedroom door and walk down the hall to the bathroom.
**
Opening the door to the bathroom, I let out a scream.
