The Italian sun glittered down from the glass ceiling of Rome airport. Cara and Max wheeled their luggage across the cold floor as Jos tagged along behind. The three of them took the same flight from Belgium. Max wanted to fly with Cara alone but his dad insisted that he'd accompany them. When Max went back to his mother's house that morning in Spa, Jos noticed his glowing expression and good mood, and he guessed what had happened. He didn't ask his son about it, but when Max returned home he gave him a look of 'I'm going to keep an eye on you now.' Therefore Jos insisted that he escort the couple on their flight.
It was a quiet flight, the youngsters sat next to each other while Jos read a book. Max fell asleep and leaned up against Cara, so she lowered him into her lap, stroking his hair. Max was a lot more refreshed after the landing.
Jos hailed a taxi and gave the address of the hotel that all three of them were staying at. Jos didn't mind that Cara would be in the same hotel; he would make sure Max stayed in his room at night. As the taxi drove through the sandy coloured plains on the way to the city, Cara stared out and watched the landscape fly by, the telephone cables zipping past overhead. Max spoke quietly to her.'So, are you feeling at home now?' He asked.
'Yes, I really missed Roma.' Cara nodded as Max put his arm around her.
'Are you going to visit your parents?'
'No, they're in Sweden on business. I would have liked to, so I could introduce you to them but they're really busy.'
'Ah, I understand. Will you take me around the sites then?'
'Of course, bello. We're only here for a few days before we have to head to Monza, so I guess we should go site-seeing. I can take you to the colosseum tonight if you want.'
'Dad?' Max called to his father at the front. 'Can Cara and me go out tonight?'
Jos sighed. 'Fine. But be back before midnight. Rome isn't the safest city at night.'
'Bene. We'll be back before then, Mr Verstappen.' Cara said. Max stared out the window, thinking about how pretty the scenery looked, and how much better it would look at night. Soon enough, the taxi arrived at the inner-city hotel. Cara and Max got their luggage out of the boot, and rolled up to the hotel, Jos walking in front. Jos pulled up to the reception desk to get the room keys.Once Cara was settled in her room and the Verstappens in theirs, Max and Cara got ready to go out. Max knocked on her door, and walked in while Cara was applying makeup. He smiled at her.
'You going to be ready soon, princess?'
She laughed. 'Hold on, nearly done. Not every girl spends five hours on makeup.'After she was done, Max grabbed her hand as they left the hotel room and took a lift downstairs. In the lift, as soon as the doors shut, Cara pinned Max to the wall and started kissing him.
'Woah, someone's keen..' Max whispered.
She nodded. 'My bello champion needs to be rewarded once in while, no?' She continued kissing him roughly until the lift reached the ground floor. After leaving, they found a bus stop and took a bus to the colosseum. Max, surprising, said that he'd never visited the colosseum, nor gone travelling in Italy in general. The only times he went to Rome were when he was taking part in go kart races. He never had time to go to tourist attractions. The colosseum looked enchanting as it was illuminated in the dark of the night. There were a few tourists about, taking pictures and admiring the views. Cara decided to go there at night as she knew it wouldn't be too busy. The couple walked inside the ancient amphitheatre and were captivated by the size of it. The whole place was empty, and the yellow stone walls were lit up by massive spotlights. Cara approached a sandy wall, rough but stable, and Max followed her. She grabbed him and kissed him, turning him around, pinning him to the wall. Max giggled as Cara whispered.
'Do you want to finish what we started in the lift?'
'Um.. what do you mean by--'
Max was cut off as Cara took off her shirt.
'Oh.' He replied.
'Well?'
'It's just.. we're in public. We can't do it here, what if someone sees us?'
'There's no one here,' Cara said, pointing around the colosseum. Max looked around him; the place was deserted.
'Still.. I'm sure this is illegal.'
'Shh... it's fine. It'll be fun...' Her hands crept up to his collar, and she fiddled with it, teasing him.
'Are you sure it'll be fine?'
'Of course. Stop being such a scared little boy..'
'I am though!' Max laughed.
'I know you are,' Cara replied, now unbuttoning Max's shirt, as she pulled him to the ground. Max quickly looked around, still shaking a bit.
'Don't worry, just kiss me.'
'Okay.'The sun rose up in the early hours of the morning, and the blinding light woke up Max. His eyes stirred before he opened them, and he realised where he was. He quickly sat up, finding his jeans and his phone. He had around 7 missed calls from his dad.
'Shit!' He yelled. Cara turned to face him. She was awake.
'What's wrong, bello?'
'We fell asleep, and my dad kept calling me. I have to go back, he must be very worried about me.'
'Forget about your dad. He can wait.'
'The colosseum will open in a bit! I'm getting dressed and going back to the hotel. You should come too.'
'Fine...' Cara sighed, getting ready to leave. As they walked back to the hotel, Max spoke to Cara.
'I can't believe we did that. It's crazy... I would never have even thought of sleeping in there, never mind...'
'Never mind what?'
'You know...' he laughed. Cara laughed back. They soon made it back, but Max was anxious. He didn't want to have to face his dad.--------------------------------------------------------
