Olivia and Harry quickly took their seats in the dining room just as one of the kitchen hands set their drinks down. “Thank you.” Harry nodded to the young lad. “So Anne, Harold, do tell. How are you enjoying your stay in America?” Carrie asked beginning a conversation. Whether she actually cared or not was hard to tell but if Olivia knew her mother like she thought she did the woman could care less. “Oh it’s wonderful. We’ve visited some family already and it’s good to see some good friends as well.” Anne smiled politely. “How exactly do you know each other?”Olivia asked surprising herself. She didn’t normally say much during these dinners. “I went to school with your father for a few years.” Anne explained. The topic of her dad made Olivia frown. Harry noticing the frown quickly changed the subject. “You’ve got a lovely home Mrs. Woodine.” He complemented. “Why thank you Harry.” Mrs. Woodine smiled. “We’ve just finished renovating most of it. We’ll be removing the pastures soon and adding a few guest houses.”
Olivia choked on the water she started to sip. “We’re doing what to the pastures?” She asked shocked at the loudness of her lately quiet voice. “We’re removing them dear. It’s for the guest houses.” Mrs. Woodine kept a composed appearance. “You can’t do that. What about Minnie?” The girl referred to her horse. “Minnie’s very old Olivia. We’re either going to have to put her down or sell her.” The tension in the room was so tight it could be cut through if tried. “Minnie isn’t very old and she’s not up for sell. And those pastures are staying mother. It was a part of the deal.” Olivia responded sounding a bit more like the real Olivia Woodine. “The pastures are going dear.” Carrie kept her composure despite knowing her daughter was in a rebellious mood. Maybe it was the letters from Niall. Maybe it was suddenly having her best friend in the same country as her. Maybe it was her annoyance with her mother. But whatever it was Olivia let out a huge huff before unleashing the deadliest of glares on to her mother. “You are not selling my horse. I bought her myself. She’s not your property; she’s mine. Along with those pastures. They’re mine. You can even look in Dad’s will. You have no right to do any of that.” Olivia stood up quickly.
“Olivia sit down.” Her mother tried to scold her daughter. She was obviously embarrassed especially because there were guests in the house. “No. I’m an adult mother. You can’t tell me what to do.” Olivia glared at her mother. It was as if her body had taken over and shoved her mind out of the picture completely. “Harry.” She turned to the boy surprising him. She gave him a look to which he nodded and stood up as well. “If you’ll excuse us Mum, Mrs. Woodine.”Harry nodded before following Olivia out of the dining room. The furious girl remained silent as she stormed out of the house. Harry followed knowing not to say anything until she did. He followed her out to an old stable. The girl quickly tied her long brown hair up into a ponytail before turning to him. “Want to see something?” She asked, the look in her eyes preventing him from saying no. Not like he would have anyway. “Yeah of course.” Harry nodded.
Olivia smiled lightly before showing him over to a long horse stall where a beautiful light brown horse stood. “This is Minnie. Harry, Minnie. Minnie, Harry. “Olivia introduced as she reached over the gate to pet the horse’s mane. “Wow. She’s um huge.” Harry commented not having any real knowledge on horses. “Yeah.” Olivia laughed. “Most horses are.” She nodded opening the gate and stepping in. “What are you doing?” Harry asked curious as he watched Olivia grab a rope attached to the horse. “We’re going for a ride.” Olivia told him leading the horse out of the stall. “We? I can’t ride a horse.” He told her. “No, but I can. All you have to do is hold on.” Olivia smiled trying to let her anger dissolve. “Hold this rope.” Olivia handed it to him before he could protest and moved down the long stable to grab Minnie’s saddle. She came back quickly and placed it on her back; making sure everything was in place. “Alright ready Harry?” She asked with a grin. “I mean, I guess.” He shrugged not so sure about if he wanted to do this or not.
