CHAPTER NINE

We drive to local cinema and Henry parks the car as close to the entrance as possible. We jump out and I instantly regret not bringing a jacket as the cold wind whips around me lifting up my hair and sending chills through my body. I start to walk towards the building hoping to get my body heat up when Henry wraps his left arm around my waist and pulls me closer to his body. He smells of body wash and subtle cologne.

I don't feel uncomfortable and I walk silently nestled in the warmth of his arm into the cinema. A wave of warm air that smells of plastic and popcorn hits us when we enter. We walk up to the line of movie posters that tell us what's showing.

"What would you like to watch?" Henry whispers

"Well, what kind of movies do you like?" I shrug out of his arm and look at him. The air that gushes between us is unwelcome but I can't help it.

"Anything" he shrugs

"Oh come on, you must have a type of movie that you like. Tell me" I gaze as earnestly as possible at him.

"I do like horror and sci-fi"

I smile at him and turn back to the boards. We choose a movie that we will both like and Henry stands in the queue to buy the tickets while I go buy the popcorn. I managed to run away before Henry gave me money for the popcorn.

The queue wasn't very long and my turn came in less than a second. I didn't know what to buy. Should I buy 1 popcorn or 2?

"Hi, what can I get you?" The guy behind the counter asks me. His hair is similar to Shaggy's from Scooby-Doo and his eyes were a pale blue.

"Um, one large popcorn and two Vitamin Waters" I mutter

"What flavour do you want?"

"Berry"

"Here you go" he hands me the food and a box tray to put it in.

"Need help?" He offers

"No, thanks" but he still walks around the counter and stands next to me to put the box and bottles into the tray.

"I'm good, thanks" I try to move but he's blocking my way.

"So who are you here with?" He asks me

"It would mean nothing to you so if you don't mind" I walk around him and he grabs my arm for a nanosecond before letting go.

I don't want to cause a scene so I drop it and make a mental note to never visit this cinema again. I look up to see Henry standing in the middle of the room with anger plastered all over his face. Oh no.

"Did you get the tickets?" I try to sound casual in the hopes that he didn't see what happened.

"What did he say to you?"

No hope there.

"Nothing, come on" I hold his arm and start pulling him towards the cinema.

He hesitantly follows me into the cinema and we take our seats right at the back.

"Why'd you pick these seats?" I ask as I set the bottles down and the box between us.

"I don't like anyone behind me" his tone was clipped. He's still mad.

The lights dim and the movie starts. It’s an awesome movie but Henry kept shaking his leg and constantly looking around the room.

"What's wrong?" I ask

"Nothing. I'm going to the bathroom" he gets up and leaves.

I debate on whether to go after him but there's only ten minutes left of the movie and I'm sure he's okay.
