Jack stared aimlessly out the window. He observed the sky and the clouds at first, but his observations slowly turned to thoughts which would turn to memories of his father. He didn't want to think about his father, especially while he was on the plane. He leaned back in his seat and looked around and noticed a middle-aged African-American woman in a peach colored blouse. She was a cheerful looking woman, but also had a look of world weariness about her. He smiled at her and she smiled back when suddenly Jack felt a hand on his shoulder.
"How's the drink?" The flight attendant asked.
"It's...good." Jack said, lying to her of course, and not very convincing either.
"That's not a very strong reaction." The attendant said with a genuine smile, not the fake kind that flight attendants are known for.
"Well it's not a very strong drink." Said Jack.
The flight attendant looked behind her and then grabbed two extra mini bottles of vodka from her cart and slipped them to Jack's tray.
"You know you're breaking some serious FAA regulations." Jack said playfully.
"I saw you give that old woman your first class ticket to that old woman when you got on." The attendant rebutted.
"Oh, I wasn't being sweet. She guilted me into it. She's like 600 years old and never flown before according to her so..come on." Jack said with mocking pride.
"You think it's all an act?" The attendant asked.
"I'm pretty sure." Jack said with sarcastic confidence."
The attendant smiled and walked away with her cart. Jack picked up one of the bottles of vodka and smiled at it, hoping that she would come back soon. He twisted open the cap and poured the whole thing in his cup, and then downed the whole drink in one gulp. He then picked up the other bottle of vodka and considered downing it as well, but ultimately decided it'd be best to save it for later. All of the sudden a younger man brushed past Jack, being followed by the cute flight attendant from before.
"Guess he really had to go..." Said the woman in the peach blouse, Rose, with a slight chuckle. Jack, in turn, smiled back at her.
Suddenly the plane hit some turbulence, visibly scaring Rose. Jack began to speak to her but a voice, a different attendants voice, came over the intercom.
"Ladies and gentleman, the pilot has turned on the fasten seat belts sign, please return to your seats and fasten yourselves in accordingly." The second attendants voice crackled over all the passengers.
"It's normal." Said Jack assuringly.
"Oh, I know...I've just never been a good flier, my husband always reminds me that planes want to stay in the air." Chuckled Rose.
"Well he sounds like a smart man." Said Jack with a smile.
"You be sure and tell him that when he gets back from the bathroom." Rose smiled back.
The plane began to shake again, this time more profusely. Startling Rose and Jack, however Jack did everything he could to make it appear as if he was not afraid to assure Rose.
"Well, I'll keep you company 'till he gets back." Jack said clicking his seatbelt.
Rose looked at him with a look of dry gratefulness.
"Don't worry, it'll be over in a minute-" Jack began to say when the plane began to shake even more than before, and then suddenly the plane dropped, sending several people up to the ceiling and back down. The emergency respirators came down and both Jack and Rose put theirs on. Rose looked at Jack with a look of sheer terror when suddenly a huge crash occurred and everything faded to white...
