The Bus Ride

So it's 6 months later and I'm heading towards California. I know what you are thinking, "Oh she's going to California for the summer. She is so lucky."

Well its not what you think... I'm not lucky. First off I'm on a bus, my mom doesn't believe in planes-- they are apparently dangerous, though what she doesn't realize is more people die yearly in car accidents then from planes. Secondly I'm stuck between an old guy who must be about 60 with thinning, stark, white hair in a bad comb over; he's in a blue and pink Hawiian shirt with khaki shorts and tennis shoes, he had to be a tourist, and he's asleep... on me... On the other side, of course by the window, is a guy who looked about my age. He is actually quite attractive, and I want to talk to him, but I don't have the courage. He is listening to music while I sit there silently reading. While listening to the music coming from his headphones I realize it is my favorite song.

I slightly smile and start to silently hum along. Then I feel eyes staring me down. I glance to my right the old dude is still sound asleep, he has been for the whole ride and we are in Kansas now, mind you I'm from Michigan, I should probably check if he is still alive. Then I hear the song again, but this time it's not from headphones he is silently singing it to himself while beating on his legs as though they are drums. He still stares blankly out the window.

I hum the melody and start doing the fingerings on the book I'm  reading which is now acting the part of my flute. Then, once again, I feel those same eyes on me. This time I look to my left first, and he is staring at me. Not like I'm crazy but with a grin on his face, a warm and welcoming grin.

He spoke. "You know this band?"

I slightly nodded my head blushing from the sudden conversation.

"I thought no one listened to this band, no one else likes this band," He exclaims, obviously excited.

"Well obviously I do and quite a few of my friends do. I have every album they ever made on cd's and on my phone." I reply, smiling from ear to ear

"Same here, plus all of the cassette tapes." He is now slightly blushing. God, he is gorgeous.      "OMG! So do I! At first, I didn't want to say anything, it's seems obsessive and kinda dorky."      " Let me guess, that's what your friends say?"

"Yeah... I mean I don't think it's dorky, I thinks its freaking awesome!" I look to my right because I no longer have the weight of the living fossil on my shoulder, and sure enough he is awake. I pay no attention to the annoyed look on his face and deepen my conversation with Mr. Hottie-to-my-Left.
