Death Note: Finding the Killer

Chapter 1: Mysterious Deaths

"Light! Please stand up and read the next passage for me!" The professor requested.
"Alright."
A 17 year old man with light brown hair and an above average height stood up.
This is Light Yagami, son of Suichiro Yagami who is the chief of the National Police Agency. Due to this, his sense of justice is really strong for someone his age. He is currently in his last year at high school.
"Follow the teachings of God and receive his blessings and so it shall be that the seas will again become bountiful and the raging storms will subside." Light read.
"Very good, Light! You can sit down now."
"Thank you, sir." Light proceeds to sit down and read his textbook, following word by word as his teacher is reading it. So it seems.

His mind has actually wandered somewhere else. This is not the first time. It was also the same reason why the teacher asked him to read a passage from the text book a while ago.

"Kidnapper found innocent due to lack of evidence!"
"Kidnapped child found dead!"
"10 people held hostage at a jewelry shop! Police are on their way!"
"Murderer found guilty!"
"Robber still not found!"

All of those words were still in his head. He can't get his mind off of it. All of them were the headlines for this week alone.

"This world is getting rotten. Someone needs to put a stop to it!"
He thought to himself. He was deeply lost in thought this time as his classmate had to remind him that the bell has rung, meaning that school is now over.

As he stood up to pack his bag, his teacher came to talk to him.
"Light, it is not like you to space out. Is anything the matter?"
"Not for me, sir. However, it is a matter for those whose lives are being tortured thanks to the criminals of this wretched world."
"Heh, your sense of justice is strong. I guess you inherited it from your father."
"Thanks for the compliment, sir. However, there is no use for my sense of justice as I have no power to change anything." Light sulked.
"It is okay, Light. Right now, it seems as if you can't do anything to help. However, you will be of help in the future. You did help your father on a few cases in the past. You are almost like the youngest member of the NPA. Study hard and follow your father's footsteps. I am sure that you can put an end to all the bad things happening in this world if you do so."
Light smiled as he heard that. "Thank you, sir! I will be heading home now!" Light said as waved goodbye to his teacher.

The instant Light reached home, he turned on the news channel on the tv in his room. He wanted to know about the latest crimes being committed and if the latest crime cases have been brought to a close. Sadly, the news did not even report anything of the latest crime cases.
"They still did not have a lead on any of the cases? What a joke!" Light thought to himself.

"Latest news! 15 people have been held hostage in a shopping mall! Police are on the way as we speak!"

"What?! You got to be kidding me! This is the second time people have been held hostage in a week! What have the people with powers been doing because it does not seem that they are doing their freaking job right!" Light got angry. Well, who wouldn't be?
"I had enough! I might as well do some revision for prep school tonight!" Light reached the tv remote to turn the tv off. However, before his fingers could press the power button, he heard something interesting from the news channel.

"The hostages are running out! All of them seem unharmed! The police are searching the place to find the kidnapper!"

"Huh? That was quick? Did someone handed the kidnapper some kind of ransom money or something?" Light thought to himself.

"Just in! The kidnapper has been found dead! The source of death seemed to be a heart attack..." Light immediately turned off the tv. He sat on his bed with his eyes wide open.
"Wh-what the?! This has got to be some kind of coincidence, right? Or did someone actually murder him? Nah, how can you murder someone with a heart attack? This has got to be a coincidence!" Light thought.

That night, he began watching the news after heading home from prep school. "I need to see for myself if this is just a coincidence or is there really someone pulling the strings from behind. The news just now was such an outbreak that ever my friends at the prep school who were not interested in the latest news talked about it non-stop!"

Light turned on the tv and switched over to the news channel.
"Why do I even bother? It must have been a coincidence! There is just no other way to describe it!"

"Just in! The robber who robbed a lone shop in Tokyo earlier this week has been found dead! The robber, Kuro Otohoroda, who has killed some of the customers in attempt of robbery earlier this week has now been found dead due to a heart attack..."

Again, Light quickly turned off the tv. His eyes widened yet again.
"What the hell is happening right now? This can't be real! Two deaths by heart attack on the same day?! This is surely not a coincidence! What or who is causing all this?! How is all of this happening?!"
Suddenly, he stopped talking. He smiled as something came across his mind.
"Wait a second. Why the heck am I worrying about something like this? It seems like only criminals are the ones being effected by this sudden death by heart attack! The world is finally heading towards a peaceful place! It seems that God has finally answered my prayers! There is someone out there hunting down criminals!"

"I really can't wait for the news tomorrow morning!" He said to himself as headed to hit the sack for the night.
