The house was silent. I crawled out of the cupboard. Stepping on broken debris. I tip toed down the stairs i had to be quiet as a mouse. It looked to me like the deadies got in a fight. There was a female's head lying in the corner with the body across the room. I kicked it. Searching for anything useful. Nothing.
Outside was chilling. It looked like nothing moved. Nothing happened. Not a deadie in sight. The trees were rustling, but the wind was dead. I searched along the curbs and saw a gun.
"Why didn't i see you before?" talking to myself. I snatched it and put it in my backpack. I pulled out a granola bar and ate half of it. I need water. Thats what i really need. I need to find a river. Or a home with working water. But a short time after the virus began to spread the government shut the water off in hopes of killing everyone else before the virus got to them too. They cut off the water, the local grocery stores, and electricity
I walked down Fall drive. Towards the river. I brought a filter with me. I heard trotting coming from behind me. I pivoted around. Knife in hand. Nothing. I continued down the road. More trotting. I swung around throwing a small pocket knife. Nothing was there. I sprinted towards the river. Nothing. I began to fill the water bottle. Putting the filter in the water bottle along with it.
I felt breathing on the back of my neck. I stood frozen in fright. The unknown thing licked my cheek. I looked over very slowly. It was a dog!! The dog could not have been more than a year old. It was an Australian Shepard. Red Merle.
"How are you living here little buddy? You are just so cute!" I talked to the dog as if it could understand me. I need to go. I said my goodbye and walked along the river. It followed me.
"Aw little buddy, you gotta go" i shooed it away. It continued to follow me. I guess i could use a friend. He can stay.
"Okay buddy, you can stay. Come on!" As i ran down the river, yelling after the dog to follow me. This dog needs a name. Chuck. I like that.
"Come on Chuck!" The dog barked with approval. I laughed as i ran into a small clearing. I grabbed a Pinecone and threw and watched Chuck run after it.
That was the best day i had had in a very, very long time.
