Chapter Two: The Incident
"Mom!" Taya yelled excitedly as she ran up to her mother. She willingly accepted Taya into her arms with a loving smile. A hug that was warm, firm and securing, the only place Taya knew she was secure in.
"Hi Ty." she exclaimed. Taya giggled with a wide smile, where she had a missing front tooth. Taya's father walked into the living room and crossed towards where they were. Suddenly, he smothered the two of them in his gigantically long arms.
"There's my two favorite girls." he stated. Mum's smiling face suddenly turned into one of despair, she gasped as though she was choking on air.
"Taya, go to your bedroom." her father demanded. She nodded but instead watched from outside the room. Her father held Taya's mother in his arms, and pulled a blanket around her shoulders.
"John." she cried, tears streaming down her face.
"I'm right here, hun. No need to be worried. I'm right here." he responded in an anguished tone. He held Taya's mother so close to his chest, as though she might disappear in any moment.
"I-I saw it again!" she cried, "But you promised you wouldn't go back there." Taya's mother sobbed in her father's chest. His shirt slowly turning a darker shade as the tears rolled down.
"I know, I promised I would try not to. It's really hard sometimes Maya." he sighed.
"Please," she begged him using a tone that Taya had never heard her use before, "Don't go back there. I don't want to be here without you."
If only he had listened.
The door opened slowly that day, Taya's Father dragging his feet behind himself practically.
"Father?" Taya inquired coming down the stairs. "Where's mother? She said she'd be back soon." He glared at Taya, and she could see there was no light in his eyes. "where's mommy?" she inquired again, her voice rising and breaking out of fear.
"It's all my fault." he said in a saddened tone, "If only I had listened, she'd still be... Taya, I'm so sorry!" He squeezed me in his arms. It was then that Taya saw images flash before her eyes. The sight of her father walking across the street, the head lights, her mother screaming and pushing him out of the way, the sight of concrete, her father looking back and yelling her mother's name, her mother's blood staining the dark road beneath her.
"Taya!" her father yelled worriedly. She looked at her dad and sobbed.
"I saw her!" she cried. Her father's eyes widened, and he tossed a blanket over her shoulders and held her even tighter, just like she remembered him hugging her mother.
That was the day Taya learned that she would soon be her own doom.
