Hi, my name's Layla.

I dread going to Math class.

I walking through the halls trying to get to class just before the bell rings. I could easily make it to Math class with plenty of time to spare but honestly, I want to be in the room for the least amount of time possible. Right before the bell rings, I take my seat. Normally no one sits in the seat next to mine, but today there's some random person there. Dismissing it as someone who needs to retake a test, I pull out my notebook and homework.

As the teacher is walking down the rows of desks to check off homework, he stops at my desk and tells me. "Layla, this is our new student Ryan, hopefully, you can make him feel comfortable in the school."

At this school we rarely get new students and when they do they are a freshman. "Hey, Ryan" I start "As you heard my name's Layla, don't expect too much help in this class from me."

"It's okay math is what I'm good at. If you need help you can ask me. Layla is a pretty name."

"Thanks, let me guess you're one of those kids that are good at every subject."

"I wish, I suck at History and English."

"Really?! I rock at those, what's your schedule anyways?"

Ryan handed me his schedule. We were currently in 4th. We had the same history teacher just he had her before me. We had the same last 3 hours. Lunch, English, and Marketing. I told him that and then realized we had missed half the lesson.

I scrambled to write down the notes that were on the board trying to grasp what we were learning today. Next to me I heard Ryan chuckle at me. I wanted to lightly punch him the leg but I didn't have any time.

After the lesson we were given the practice work, I turn to the page in my book and noticed I didn't know a thing. I set my head down on my book already frustrated with what was ahead of me. About a minute later, I feel someone poke my arm. I raise my head slightly and Ryan says "If you want help I can help you, this is the last thing we went over at my old school."

I accept the help and slowly begin tackling the problems on the page. His patients was a gift because I was extremely slow at understanding anything math related. Towards the end of class, I closed my book and started putting my stuff away. "Thank you so much, Ryan," I said as I stood up to grab the homework assignment from the teacher's desk.

"Hey, Layla" Ryan stopped me " Would you eat lunch with me."

"Yeah, of course."

"Thank you so much, you've been the only person nice to me all day."

That surprised me but I tried to not let it show. I went up the teacher's desk and grabbed the paper for both Ryan and myself. As I handed him his paper the bell rang to signify the end of the class. "See you at lunch."

I then went to my next class and breezed through it.
