I slipped on a pair of dark jeans and a black button up shirt. I put my hat on and decided it wasn't going to work. I took it off and gelled my hair. I got in my truck.
Walked up the path to the front door and I knocked. "Hey." I said smiling to her.
"Hey. Wanna come in I'm not quite ready yet." She said.
"Yeah." I said. I walked to the couch and waited for Paige to be ready. I thumbed threw my phone and noticed a tweet that was sent to me. It was some girl probably a fan. I couldn't make out the name of the person it was, but the tweet read "Hey @LukebryanOnline! I can't wait to see you in Las Vegas in 17 days." She wasn't like anyone else any other fan. She didn't say she loved me or anything just a i can't wait. I appreciated that. I favorited her tweet and then commented back "I can't wait to play there. Maybe I'll see you. Enjoy the show."
I thought about the tweet some more then I decided to click on her profile. Before I could see anything Paige came down so I exited out and slipped my phone in my pocket.
"Ready?" I asked
"Yeah."
We headed into town to a good BBQ restaurant. It was one of our favorites. We talked about our Christmas on the way there.
We got to the restaurant and they seated us in a booth. "So what are you doin for New Years?" I asked continuing our conversation from the truck.
"Nothing might go out with the girls." She said.
"Wanna come with to New York?" I asked.
"That'd be fun." She said.
"Well wanna be my date to the New Years party then?"
"I'd love to." She said smiling.
"Sweet! I wanna leave the 30th if that works for you?"
"That works. Are we driving?"
"Nope I got Plane tickets with Blake, Jason, Cole, and Dierks." I said smiling.
"Okay cool!" She said. We got our dinner and ate and talked some more then I brought her home.
"I'll see you in a couple days." I said.
"Sounds good. Thanks for dinner." She said.
"Yep anytime." I said smiling then I started walking to my truck.
"Wait Luke!" She yelled.
"What?"
"I forgot to give you your gift."
"Shit mines in my truck too." I walked and grabbed it and then went inside.
We sat on the couch and exchanged gifts.
"You first." I said to her.She unwrapped the gift and her eyes got big. I got her a Cross necklace with her birth stone gem in the middle of it. "I love it." She said. Then she opened her next one it was a hockey laced black sweatshirt and it said Nashville on it. She pointed it out one time. "This is the one I wanted!" She said. "Thank you so much Luke!" She said I stood up and she ran up to hug me. She hugged me and then we stared into eachothers eyes. For a while. I just started knowing I could find my way out I didn't get lost in them. Then she kissed me. And I didn't kiss back.
"Oh my gosh Luke." She said pulling away. "I'm so sorry."
"No, don't be." I said. I was so shocked. I wanted to lean in and kiss her again but I couldn't. We just stared into eachothers eyes again then I did it. I kissed her. "I'm sorry." I said. I turned and sat back at the chair I was at.
It was awkward from there on I opened up the gifts she got me. She got me a new pair of Oakley sunglasses, and a under armour sweatshirt. It was orange with a camo sign. "Thank you so much." I said to her.
"You're welcome." She said. Things were still awkward.
"I think I better go." I said.
"Thanks for tonight." She said.
I just nodded and then left. I didn't go home. I went to a local bar that I went to a lot. It was a smaller place, wasn't really a party bar, more of a dinner place or come with a couple friends but I came here alone.
"Hey Luke." Jack the bartender said. He was a older fella. In his 60's. Tall but on the husky side he had a great beard but it wasn't a long one. He had silver grey hair but always wore a greasy dirty sponsors hat for the bar he owned. "Dovers bar and grill". His name was Jack Dover. Jack is a very inspirational man, and him and I talk quite abit he kinda acts like my counselor or my father away from home.
"Jack." I said nodding.
"He poured me a Jack Daniels and handed it to me."
"I was saying hi to you but some Jack Daniels works for me." I said laughing.
"Rough night?" He asked twisting the top off of a Miller Light skidding it on the bar to me.
"Paige kissed me then I kissed her back." I said. "I don't like her more than a friend. I'm just confused. I can't believe it happened." I said shaking my head.
"Why is that?" He asked leaning over the bar.
"I just know my feelings aren't there for her. Because if they were I would've kissed her a long time ago." I said. "She isn't the one." I paused taking a drink. "And I know that."
"But Luke how do you know?" He asked. "You haven't gave it a shot? Maybe she is then one."
"I thought about giving it a shot but I can't love her. My heart won't let me. I could think I do but it wouldn't be fair to her or I." I stated. My thoughts were a cluttered mess.
