"Shhhhhh" Jessica whispered, "Get down."
Connor crouched down behind the cabinet.
"If I'm not back in 20 minutes there's a there's a another pistol under the bed. Don't go outside unless you have to."
He nodded. "Be careful Jessica."And with that she twisted the doorknob and stepped outside.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"It's been 30 minutes, where in the world is she?"
Connor watched the clock and tapped his fingers on the floor impatiently.
"I can't just sit here and wait. What if she's hurt? What if she's waiting for me to come help her? What if.. no no no she couldn't be. Could she?"
He buried his face in his hands.
"What am I going to do? What am I going to do. The gun. I forgot about the gun!" He whispered to himself.
Connor got up from the kitchen tile and searched for the bedroom. He hadn't had a chance to go through the house yet; he basically passed out of exhaustion on the kitchen floor last night.
He opened the first door in the hallway. It seemed to be a laundry room but it looked like it hadn't been used in years, probably since it was abandoned along with the entire house, when most people fled from the country. He clicked the door shut and continued down the dimly lit hallway.
He came to a slightly cracked door and pushed it open. Walking in, he saw an unmade bed and a cracked mirror on the wall. Tossing a pillow aside he searched under the bed. A metallic shine caught his eye and he pulled a gun out along with half empty box of ammunition. He loaded the pistol and tucked in in his waistband. He was going after her, whether she liked it or not.___________________________
