chapter one
It was a nice day for most, but I was cold and hadn't found any food yet. That's when I saw her, the elf queen, rider, and egg ferryer. I envyed her, for she had everything I could ever dream of. A dragon, a life worth respecting, and the love of any man she could choose. I brushed her mind hoping to see what it felt like, I swore, she felt me and looked my way at the alley I was watching her from. I swore again when I felt her mind brush against mine looking for me, no dought to punish me for spying. I ran as hard as I could trying to slip away from her mind through crowds and distance. I knew the path I was taking that fooled many a magician I had stumbled upon. I had never ment harm, but any magician that caught me looking with my mind tried to capture me. I would never let that happen again. The pain the first one gave me when he captured me was the worst thing I had ever felt, I felt like it would never end but when it did he threw me to his guards. Which was more painful, I'll never try to guess.
I had made to the end of my first escape route when I stopped and listened for chasing feet and her mind, I heard nothing out of the ordinary. It made me scared to think she could of poisened me or put a tracking spell on me, but I knew none of the ancient language to check. A terrible thing for those born with magic, I got lucky sometimes when my emotion took control but I don't think that will help me now. I could be in danger but I had no way to tell, so I stumbled to an alleyway that looked like it had the promise of just slitely burnt bread.
Once I found my fill for the day I went "home", it was mainly just an alley with an empty trashcan I stored stuff in and slept in but is the best I can aford without... You get my drift. As I was settling down for the night I heard the nightly anouncments for the city. They anouced that queen arya was here to search for new riders by showing all the young ones the egg and waiting for a responce. A weird way but who was I to judge. They also said somthing about anyone over 12 and under 25 had to see the egg at least once. I knew I wouldn't get to; I tried once but the guards I met while trying told me cruel things and shooed me off because I was just a stray. I got them later by convincing other "strays" to throw rocks and trip them everytime they saw them. I finaly heard nothing but the sounds of the city around me and fell into a troubled sleep.

I woke up to the subtle sound of footsteps and jostling armor. I imediantly froze, hopeing it was just a wandering city soldier. I heard some muffled whispers then a musical, yet hard, voice tell me to come out of the trash can, I knew it was an elf. Don't ask me how but I knew. I thought about my chances of out-running an elf and decided I wouldn't make it. I slowly lifted the lid expecting an angry magician or soldier that I had somehow offended. I found the elf queen, arya, staring at me with her gaurds behind her and her beautiful emerald dragon poking his head in from the street. I fainted, to my embaresment, as soon as I saw them. My last thought was "I'm going to be killed by an angry elf". The last thing I saw was her smile at my last thought.
