Have you ever realized that all the time, in books and movies, if someone is in love, the other person automatically seems to love them too?
And then, it always ends in a relationship, and a happily ever after. Yay. Well, I'm sorry to break it to all the authors out there, but that's not how life works. Believe me, I know that much.
So if you came here to read about a girl who falls in love, and somehow magically, he loves her to, you're out of luck. Go find every other book in existence. But if you came here looking for something that actually includes reality, congratulations, you've found it.
In my life, there's no happily ever afters, only sad pathetic, single life. For me at least. You want to hear about me falling in love? Here it is, but I assure you, it won't be anything like a fairytale.
-------------------------------------------
I guess I should start at the beginning. Well, obviously not the very beginning, because, well, I don't think anyone wants to hear about that. What I mean is, maybe I should tell you some things about myself before I get into this.Well, first of all, I'm Mia Walker. And, yeah, I get it's hard, because everyone mispronounces it, and says My-ah. I want to let you know right now, it is Mee-ah, not My-ah. Got that? Okay. Now that we've got that out of the way, I'm sixteen years old, grade 11, obviously in high school.
And most importantly, I am perpetually single. I'm actually very good at it. Single on Valentines Day, no one to kiss on New Years, you get it. I mean sure, there have been guys who have liked me before, and I've liked other guys, but the feeling has never been mutual. As it usually is. I've learned to get pretty used to being single, I have been this way for 16 years, but there are certain times when it just plain sucks. Especially since almost everyone my age is in a relationship, and I'm... well, not.
Okay, enough of this rant, I'm sure you're here to read the story.
-------------------------------------------
It all started on the first day of grade 10, to be completely honest. That day, was the day when he arrived. Tyler Anderson. A transfer student all the way from New York, and he was gorgeous. Sorry, if there are any guys reading this, but it's true. He has dark brown hair, and green eyes, he's a lot taller than me, which isn't hard since I'm only 5'3". But he's tall. Like 6 feet.
He was in 3 of my four classes first semester, which might be the reason why my grades dropped slightly below my average mark, and we ended up becoming really good friends.
Second semester, we had no classes together, but we had gotten really close. He was my best friend. You're waiting for the part that sucks right? Well, here it is. That was all we were. Best friends.
It was kind of depressing, since I had fallen more in love with him every day that I saw him. Monday, infatuated, Tuesday, falling, Wednesday, head over heels, Thursday, I wanted to rip my heart out of my chest. And it even got worse from there.
--------------------------------------------
The year of Grade 10 was plain torture. I obviously couldn't tell him the way that I felt because, you know, we were best friends. I wasn't about to ruin that friendship.I feel like he may have suspected it for most of the time. I didn't exactly make it that subtle. Like most single girls, I haven't had much experience with flirting, so I wasn't very good at it.
As I was saying, we remained friends for the rest of that year, which I guess was better than him not talking to me.
By the end of the school year, there was obviously exams, which you're either used to by now, or you will be. After our exams, like I did every year, I had a pool party with all my friends. And don't worry, it's not like he was the only guy there, I have other guy friends too. I know what you're all thinking though, a bunch of 16 year olds having a party, and the parents aren't home. That usually means alcohol right? Sorry to break it to you, but I don't do that kind of thing. Same with swearing. I don't find either of those very classy, and anyways, what's the point of doing things like that?
At this party though, it was the very first time Tyler had been to a high school party, not just since he moved into Ontario, but ever. He appreciated the fact that me and none of my friends weren't the type of people to drink, so, obviously, it made me find him even more attractive. Which tore my heart just a little bit more that day.
----------------------------------------------
The entire summer before grade 11, we were practically with each other every single day. So often in fact, that my family thought that we were dating. I wish right? We'd go camping together, to amusement parks, festivals, and the beach. Stereotypical tumblr teenage stuff. Not that we're tumblr at all.
There is one time though, that I want to tell you about. Just so you know a little bit more about our relationship.
One of the days he was over at my place, one of the last days of the summer, we had just gotten in from my pool, and we headed up towards my room.
It's pretty average sized, but it has this beautiful bay window, with amazingly comfortable pillows lined up perfectly, that I sit in all the time when I paint and do other artsy stuff. My room is painted teal and white, which is pretty much the colour scheme all throughout the room.
So we went to sit at the bay window, where I had left my painting stuff out.
"Mia?" he asked me, picking up something I couldn't really see "Did you... paint me?"
"Oh, ummm" I said quickly, silently cursing myself "Yeah, I did. You're um, just really easy to paint"
"Am I?" he said, laughing, "maybe I should sign up to be one of those models for painters. You can do that right?"
"Sureeee. But oh my gosh I would laugh so hard" I told him, relieved he didn't suspect anything "Not a great idea. They might make you model nude"
"Well, I would be amazing at that" he retorted, trying to hold back a smile
"Yeah, I don't know about that" I told him
We joked around like that a lot, just like most best friends do, but I found myself feeling the urge to just rest my head on his shoulder or hold his hand every time we were together. I hated feeling that way because I knew he didn't feel the same. That summer, I never told him that I was in love with him, I mean, how could I?

Teen FictionMia Walker gets it. Romances that happen in books and fairytales, don't actually happen in real life. Most of the time it's just a lot of heartbreak. She believes you can't find love in the real world, and she's right. Isn't she?
