I focus my mind on the the unofficial task at hand. This place is enormous. The foundation and stone work resembles marble. Of course it's blue. Just like everything else on this planet. But the architecture is incredible!
Garret's voice fills the silence, I guess we were all in too much awe to be chattering away as usual. "I found something."
The screen flips to a shared live feed.
"What is that?" Ashly's voice.
On the screen light is filtering through the hall Garret is standing in, and scattered from where he stands to the other end... bodies. Bodies of various shapes and sizes.
"Several alien species. Who can say if they're all native to this planet or not."
"How long have they been here? This place has to have been buried for thousands of years!"
Pete's voice interrupts, "Guys. There's more in this hall."
Soon enough Ashly, Tim and I myself come upon halls filled with deceased aliens.
"They look like they're all going somewhere." I say. "Like... They're drawn to something." I tread lightly, careful not to disturb the dead. I've never seen so many different alien life forms in one place. What were they all here for? They must've been after something on this blue planet.
Finally the hall opens up and I'm standing in a massive room much like... a throne. "We all owe Tim 5 bucks."
"YES! I knew it!!"
I take in the magnificent architecture of the chamber when my eyes rest upon the throne. The pale light of the sun shimmering through the blue glass angled perfectly on it.
My heart nearly stops. I stand frozen in my steps. I hear voices over the comm, but it sounds distant and muted.
I draw closer to the form on the throne unable to resist this unknown desire to touch it.
It's hand is extended towards me, beckoning me.
I reach out as I draw closer.
I... must...
My world goes black.
In the silence I hear a voice whisper in my mind... I've been waiting for you.
My eyes shoot open. I'm lying on the floor among the dead. The throne where the desired alien life-form sat is now empty.
I feel inhuman hands grasping my own, but I see no one. The voice whispers, The others were not worthy... The hands reach into me through my skin. My heart is racing as the alien infuses itself into my being. I try to scream but it's hand is grasping the insides of my throat. Shhh. I don't want to harm you, human. I could feel hot tears streaming, it releases me, I gasp for air choking on blue dust. Yes. Breathe. The voice commands. I feel it. Everywhere inside me. In my fingertips. The soles of my feet... I am aware of it using my senses. I've never inhabited a human before. It's voice- no... her voice. Her voice was tinged with amusement. I could feel her getting comfortable beneath my skin.
"What do you want with me?" My voice shakes past my sore throat.
You have no reason to fear, little human. It feels like she's stroking my cheek. Rise. Take me where you reside, I want to to know the human race.
Every hair on my body stands on end. She is watching the images that flash through my mind. This creature has no good intention toward humans.
I have no good intention toward any living being.
Images of places and species I've never seen or known flash in my mind's eye. The desire for this creature in her many hosts and... the death and destruction she left in her wake.
I lay there refusing to get up.
Rise, human! I feel razor finger tips probing my insides for something vulnerable to-
"Thea!"
"Pete!"
Shhh! Not one word about me. She hisses. Her fingertips tickle my throat.
"Thea, what happened? You haven't been answering the comm, we have to get back to base."
I shake my head vigorously afraid to speak.
"You're trembling, Thea." He helps me up. He looks around and speaks as if he understands, "C'mon." He puts an arm around my shoulder. I feel no comfort with this alien inside me. "This place gives me the creeps. Whatever it once was, it's now just a massive tomb."
