I'm bored, bro.

"Fuck it," groaned Det. Javier Esposito while crushing his third can of Coke and dropping it on the floor.

"Hey, slob, use the trash bin," Det. Kevin Ryan admonished. Ryan is Esposito's partner, has been for three years now. He gets that the dark detective is feeling frustrated. They have been sitting in the black car for almost two hours. His partner has always been an impatient man.

Esposito picked the can up, his brows pinched together, and placed it in the trash bin. "Sorry, mom," he grumbled.

"This is your fault, you know."

"What? How the fuck?"

"You HAD to make a bet with Castle. You had to be so goddamned sure of yourself!" Richard Castle is a consultant in the NYPD 12th Precinct where they both work.

"Hey! If we had won, we'd have his Lamborghini for an entire week! Four days for me, three for you. I had to try," Esposito reasoned, his voice whiny like a kid trying to get out of trouble.

"Wow, that's fair," Ryan said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Four days for you? How come?"

"Well, what do you want? That we'd split a day?"

"Whatever, man. It's still your fault that we got this stakeout. On a Saturday, no less. Beckett's probably having a ball. In fact, she's in a ball. With Castle. That lucky son of a bitch. I have no idea why he's so lucky in bets. Meanwhile, here we are, our butts getting flattened like pancakes. Waiting for a crazy guy who fancies himself a vigilante to appear. This is all. Your. Fault." Kate Beckett, their boss, assigned them to this stakeout when they lost the bet made with Castle.

"Zzzzz."

Ryan whipped his head to the right. "Hey! C'mon, no sleeping. Soon enough, we'll both get to sleep, and miss the target and you know what Beckett'll do to us. "

"Man, you talk too much and that voice of yours almost sent me into a coma, man," Esposito answered, his voice thick with sleep. He really actually snoozed while Ryan was talking, the nerve.

"We have to do something. I cannot drink another soda."

"Well, we can tell stories," said Ryan, covering up a yawn. His partner's sleepy voice is tugging at him, made him think of his soft but firm bed.

"Okay. You start," Esposito breathed, bending his head this way and that, getting the kinks out.

"Hmm. You've met Marty, right? My high school buddy? Well, he just -"

"Hit the lotto and is married the girl who rejected him in high school," interjected Esposito.

"Uh, okay. Your turn."

"Hmm. Okay. You know Lanie's friend, Marsha? She was -"

"Formerly a prostitute," said Ryan in a bored voice.

They sat in silence for a couple of minutes, both looking out the window without seeing anything. The silence stretched on, you could almost hear the crickets chirping, if there were any in the dark streets of New York.

"That's it," Ryan exhaled. "We officially just ran out of things to talk about."

"Mmm. Man, this is the pits. I mean, it's Saturday. I could be having a date with a sexy redhead, a chance of getting lucky," Esposito whined.

"What? Have you and Lanie broken up again?"

"You know Lanie and me. One minute we can't get enough of each other, next minute we can't stand each other. That's how it is with hot people, you know," he winked at his partner.
