INTRO
She was there... all along. They could all tell him that. But he had a weird feeling that something... Whatever it was... Was not right. The way she hid behind her blond-tan hair, seemingly blocking of the world. No one questioned it. No one wondered why. They were all too busy and caught up in their own lives to notice. But he was different, even if he would never consider him self this way. He noticed the details, the imperfections, the cracks in the earth that no one else had time for. And so, he noticed her for the very first time.
Chapter one
JOHNS POV
I was listening to my music, trying to sound out all the screaming elementary kids and the over dramatic high schoolers, when a girl walked by. She wore yellow leggings under red shorts and a pink T-shirt. Her blonde-brown hair was tied up in a ponytail with a neon green rubber band, but strangest of all, her face was makeup free. On the first day of school. In 8th grade. Wow. But who was she? When John searched through his brain, he could not come across any names.
Jessie? Nope. Haiti? Nope. Cassy? Nope. Turing slowly, he taped the boy sitting next to him, a 7th grade boy with nerdy glasses and bowl-cut hair. "Know who that is?"
"Sally?"
"Who's that?"
"Uh... She's been going to Fern's since kindergarten I think-"
John was not able to reply because the bus had come to a stop, and already kids were shoving and pushing, trying to get off so they could run off to see their friends.
In a sort of confused daze, John walked off the bus and made his way over to a group of his friends standing near the school front doors.
Soon, he was joining in with the chatter, comparing summers, and vacations, and didn't give the girl from the bus a second thought. At least... For a while.
