Today was moving day. And my mother insisted on me being with DJ and her sons, so I said why not. Now I know why not. As I helped DJ prepare breakfast, she kept complimenting me on random, unimportant facts.
"You're shirt is pretty!"
"I'm so glad I know you!"
"It wouldn't b fun making breakfast without you."
"You're a great babysitter."

"Good morning." Said Jackson as he entered the room. "There he is! My handsome firstborn baby boy! And his beautiful best friend is here and waiting for him! Have a seat at the head of the table, right next to your best friend, and while you too wait on your favorite pancakes, enjoy a pre-breakfast milkshake!"

"You're being weird." Says Jackson suspiciously.

"I'm not being weird! Can't a mom get her handsome firstborn son and his beautiful best friend a pre-breakfast milkshake?"

"No, not really." I reason.

"Ok that was a little weird." She admits

"Can I have some hot fudge on my pancakes?" He asks. I listen closely knowing he's testing her.

"Sure honey."

"Ok you're up to something."

"I figured as much." I say.

"I finally got her up!" Says Max, dragging a half asleep Stephanie up the steps. "Aunt Stephanie is not a morning person." She nods. "No, no. Aunt Stephanie is a night person. You know, when the clubs are going off, the bottles are popping, when people are hooking up...." My eyes widen as do Jackson's and DJ clears her throat loudly behind Max and points to him with her finger. "....their Xbox's." I roll my eyes but mentally applaud her save. "Aunt Steph, let's go get some juice."

"But I don't want any juice."

"Then help me pick out my juice."

As soon as they're out of reach, I whisper to Jackson. "What the heck are they up too." He shakes his head. "No idea, but I'm scared to find out." I nod. "Agreed. Whatever it is must be bad..." They both shudder at the thought.

DJ has gone mad. She started drowning our pancakes in fudge and syrup and adding 3 feet of whipped cream.

"Mom just tell me what's going on!" He pleads.

"Um... Ok." I sigh but panic as she says that.

"You might this is bad news, but it's really good news. Just hiding in not so great news. It's like cauliflower filled with jelly beans!"

"Mrs Fuller, is there anyway you can explain without weird complicated metaphors?" I ask.

Suddenly Kimmy and a not so enthusiastic Ramona burst through the door.

"I've waited my whole life to say this. Home sweet home!" Jackson and I give each other a we're going to die look.

"No." We say simultaneously.

"Yes. Now you know the great news. Ramona and Kimmy are here to help us out, and we're thankful aren't we boys."

"MOM!" I yell, a surge of anger going through me.

"Yes Kal-" She looks around the room with wide eyes. "I see you know now. And I have something important to do so goodbye to you all." She says before running out.

"Uh cauliflower filled jellybean my butt!" Cries Jackson before running out the back door.

"Ditto." I say before chasing after him.

"Jackson!" I yell. We stop running when we get to a park.

"I can't believe her." He says, sitting on one of the swings.
