My dad has been over seas in Iran for the last 3 years. I miss him terribly, but I know he's doing amazing things, like risking his life to save ours. It truly is amazing. Today we play the championship game. It was the JV vs. Varsity showdown. We all kind of knew that we were going to lose, but it's going to be fun anyways. I heard that were all going to get interviewed to be on national television. I'm excited. I pulled a pair of black leggings on, and a Cincinnati Redskins Jersey on. Then I put my light brown uggs on, and threw my hockey bag over my shoulder. I walked out the door and was greeted by Charlie. Charlie and I grew up together, I moved in with him and his mother after my own mother & brother had passed away. Since my dad was overseas, there was no one here to watch me. Ms.Conway was kind enough to let me stay with them. Charlie and I walked to the ice rink. It wasn't far, maybe a mile or so. We talked about how nervous we were, but how we were also excited. I'm nervous about the interview, I'm a really shy person at heart, so I can only imagine how camera shy I'll be. Charlie opened the door for me at the hockey rink, he was always such a gentleman. About 10 minutes later we were all changed up. We went out onto the ice and talked with the rest of the team. "I can't wait to be on T.V.!" mentioned Goldberg. "I hope the news reporter is going to be a hot chick." Luis exclaimed. I stayed quiet, and just fiddled with my skates. Charlie saw that I was acting funny, and he always makes sure I'm okay. "Aliza.. You okay?" He pondered. I looked up and him and then back down at the ground. "Yeah, I just.. I just really miss my dad." I sighed. Charlie pulled me in for a hug. He always gave the best hugs. Charlie was about seven inches taller than me, so my face was level with his chest. Soon after our embrace, the refs sounded the buzzer which meant it was game time. I took my place on center ice. I turned around to see Charlie behind me, he nodded his head at me. I turned back around and faced the varsity center. I hate to admit it, but I was intimidated. Very. All of the varsity players towered over us. The ref blew the whistle, and the game had started. I fought with varsity for the puck, which I ended up getting. I started skating down the ice, I flicked the puck back down to Dwayne, who then flung the puck high up in the air. It landed right on front of my skates and I flung it into the goal. The varsity goalie just barely missed it. The score was now 1-0.

It was the 30 seconds of the game. We were tied with Varsity 5-5. I skated out and took my place on center ice. I glanced up to see the varsity player glaring into my soul. I immediately looked back down at the ice. The ref blew the whistle, and we fought for the puck once more. Varsity got it. Damnit. Varsity started skating down to our goal, but I stayed all the way back in front of the Varsity goal. I had remembered a plan that Coach had taught us a while back, but we never got to use it. Nows the time. I thought. "JUMPER CABLES!!!" I hollered down the rink. Next thing I new, Charlie had stolen the puck back from varsity, and he was skating towards me. I started my pirouettes. They started slow, and gradually got faster. The point of this plan is to distract varsity with my figure skating skills, then go right in for the easy shot. I heard the goal buzzer go off as I was in mid spin. We had won! I was getting ready to stop spinning when I felt a sharp pain in my side. Like someone had taken their elbow and drove it into my side. I felt my body fly forwards and my face bashed hard off of the ice. I don't remember much after that. I blacked out.

I shot, and I scored. We won! I looked over to see Aliza still spinning. Then I glanced away for a second, and looked back and she was on the floor, not moving. I skated over to her, but I couldn't see her face for she was laying on her stomach. "Hey help I need help out here!" I hollered to the ref and medical technicians. They came skating out and turned her over. I couldn't see through the plexi glass of her mask, it was covered in blood. I gulped. I felt tears welling up in my eyes. They pulled her helmet off and there I saw it. It was just an inch long gash above her eye. She still had all of her teeth, and she still looked beautiful. The medics hauled her off of the ice. I prayed to God that she would be okay.
- Aliza's P.O.V -
I woke up in the medical room of the Rec center. I sat up, and my head started throbbing. A doctor came over and told me to lie back down. He told me that I had split my head open, and they had to give me 13 stitches just to close the wound. Then he gave me pain medication and told me I was ready to go. I headed back to the locker room, and put my leggings back on. I decided to leave my ducks jersey on, and put uggs on too. I wasn't sure how done the game was, so I walked out to the rink to see. I was surprised to find out that they had only just started interviews. I walked out onto the ice. The arena fell silent, and everyone turned to look at me. My ducks saw me and screamed my name. They all skated super fast to get to me. Charlie was the only one who dared to touch me. He came right in and gave me a hug. The announcer told me to come up onto the podium, so I did. She then asked me a very important question. "If you could have one person here with you right now, who would it be and why?" I thought for a moment before speaking up. "My father is serving over seas in Iran, and I haven't seen him in almost four years. He's the one who taught me how to play hockey. It would mean so much to have him here." I bowed my head and started walking away from the mic. I had made it off of the stage and almost back with the rest of the team, when something came over the loud speaker. It was a voice saying my name, and telling me to turn back around. I slowly turned around, and covered my mouth with my hands. There stood my dad, with a bouquet of roses, and his army uniform on. Tears instantly ran out of my eyes, and I dropped to my knees. I couldn't believe my eyes. My dad came walking over to me, as I was huddling in a ball on the ice. My dad helped me stand up, and then picked me up into a hug. I wrapped my legs around his waste and clung to him for dear life. I cried uncontrollably into his shoulder. "I missed you so much daddy." I spoke to him. "I'm proud of you sweetheart. Your mother and brother would be too." I thought of them for a moment, and then tried to calm myself down some. I stayed in my dads arms like that for a good 5 minutes. Just clinging to him so he wouldn't leave. He finally set me down, and he grabbed my hands. "You know, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the ducks. Especially Charlie." He winked at me. I turned around to face my team. More tears ran down my face. I ran at my teams and hugged them. All of them. Each individually. Everyone but Charlie that is. I was saving him for last. Word on the street was that they had been planning this for weeks. I searched through the crowd to find Charlie, and then I saw him standing there. I ran and jumped to his arms. "Thank you so much Charlie. This means so much to me." I started crying harder, as I had my face shoved into his chest. "I would do anything for you, Aliza. I love you, as more than just a friend." I slowly looked up into Charlie's eyes. I leaned up and kissed his lips. "I love you Charlie." He smiled, before pecking my lips once more and pulling me into a hug. I removed myself from Charlie's arms before going back over to my dad.
