The Night I Ignored The Stars

I've mourned enough

for the person I lost

I lit the last candle

it's time to put him to rest.

I've forgotten the melody

and the salty tang of tears shed.

My wounds were finally turning to scars

and looking back didn't make my ribs shrink anymore.

Then on the night the moon was split in half

and the air breathed tiny miracles,

he stood in front of me,

flesh and blood, close to touch.

His eyes were a mosaic

of tomorrows that never happened

and the sky wept pieces of him,

of us, I missed.

'How would you survive

another goodbye after this?'

the stars howled.

But I ignored them.
