Thunder boomed, waking a young teen suddenly.
Letting out a sigh, she saw the power went out throughout the entire home.
Getting out of bed, careful not to disturb her cat, Amethyst, abandoned by her old caretakers due to her unusually long ears. The girl exited her room, pausing by the pull-down stairs on the ceiling that led to the attic.
Don't go in the attic the rule her mother told her everyday.
But why? It's just a dusty old room filled with cardboard boxes and old stuff that is just worth seeing! She thought.Pushing away the thought for later, she went downstairs to the kitchen where her mother was taking out the candles.
"Thunder startle you?""Obviously." the girl replied, glancing to the lighter that was set out to light the candles.
"Can I help?" she asked."Course. Help yourself. Be careful of the fire."
"I know, mom."
Grabbing the lighter, she began to light the candles as they were set out.
Walking around the house candles were placed on shelves and counters, dimly and eerily lighting the home.
This house is pretty scary at night... The candles only make it more creepy... the girl thought.Finishing, the girl glanced to the window that revealed a series of lightning.
"I'm surprised there hasn't been a tornado...""I had the news going just in case. But phone warnings will do."
"Yeah... Suure." replied the teen, looking at the attic roof-door.
"Pandora, no going in the attic."
"But it could have interesting stuff!" Pandora complained.
"No, Pandora." her mother sternly said.
"Fine..." sighed Pandora.
"If you sneak in you're grounded for a week."
"Shit."
"Language."
"I'm at swearing age."
"Not in this house."
"Ugh... I'm going back to bed."
"Night."
"Night, mom."
Heading upstairs and to her room, she laid down on the bed, closing her eyes and falling asleep peacefully.
