I don't remember much. All I do is that it hurt looking at him. It hurt to know all that I knew. And it hurt knowing I could never hold him in my arms again.

"Earth to Cleo," Janice said, waving a hand in front of my vacant stare.

I blinked twice and stared at her with wide eyes.

"You ready?" she asked.

I nodded in response.

I lifted my arm from the cold desk and stood up, following her out of the classroom.

"You okay?" she asked.

I wanted to tell her yes, I really did.

But I couldn't lie to my best friend, could I?

"Yeah," I gave her a convincing smile, "just a little head ache."

She sighed.

"Damn those head aches of yours," she responded, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.

We strolled out of Emerson High School, glad to be out for winter break.

She drove in silence, using the radio as a sponge to sop up the awkwardness. Sometimes I just had days like this, I couldn't help it.

She pulled into my driveway.

"Get better Cleo," she said with concern glinting in her eyes.

I just curled the ends of my lips, not wanting to give any explanations.

The dreams had been getting worse lately, swelling my mind with petrifying images and phrases, haunting me even while my eyes were open.

The front door to my home was unlocked and I stepped into the warm heat.

"I'm home!" I called out to my mom who was somewhere in the house.

I left my bag on the bottom stair, climbing up the rest to my room, the last door to the right in the vacant hallway.

Everything was so dreary, so dull.

I plugged my iPod into speakers, putting on some decent song and carried it with me into the bathroom that connected to my bedroom.

I ran the water, making sure it was freezing.

I pulled out the pills from one of the cabinets, removing the childproof lid and dumping an excess amount onto my hand.

I poured them all into my mouth carelessly, swallowing as many as I could without gagging.

I turned off the faucet, dumping into the ice cold water fully clothed, my tan sweater absorbing the water quickly.

I inhaled my last breath, ducking my head underneath the water as I felt myself grow more and more tired.

My whole face was submerged in the water and all I could hear was the steady beat of my heart slowing in my eardrums until it was no more.

I don't remember much of how I got here. Just that I awoke on a comfortable bed in a dorm room. I remember walking out into the broad always only to find someone right outside my door.

He was tall, his hair was a chocolate brown, identical to mine, and brushed just over his eyebrows. His eyes were stormy blue, His iris' blotted with an inky blue.

There was something about him that had me drawn to his charm.

Maybe it was the way he smiled as soon as he saw me.

I looked at him with a confused look on my face and tried to speak, only coughing up water.

He rushed to my aid, placing a hand on my shoulder and the other on my back.

He was leading me down the hallway and down multiple turns. I wanted to speak but I couldn't.

Where was I? What's going on? Why am I coughing water?

So many questions flooded my mind and I couldn't help but stifle them as best I could.

"Hold on we're on our way to the nurse," he said.

The nurse? Were we at some school?

Was I in a mental hospital?!

We made a few more turns and finally we had reached our destination.

He pushed open the glass doors and started shouting for help but I couldn't hear over the ringing in my ears. I could feel the water inside them, splashing vigorously.

I was loosing my consciousness again, something I never wanted to lose.

I awoke on another cot, staring up at a bright white light.

"Cleo?" I heard a voice.

It sounded distant, but as if it was growing closer.

I blinked a few times and sat up, registering the room I was in. It was a bright white, and the person I least expected sat in a chair next to me.

"Cleo!" Janice squeezed me tightly.

I smiled, the first real smile I had given in a long while.

"I was so worried! Your mom called me and we rushed you over here as soon as we could! And now..." she paused, leaning back to look at me, "you're home."

I froze.

"Home?" I questioned.

"Yes, you're home," she concurred.

I got up running out the door and into a hallway that was as bright as the room I woke up in.

"Cleo, stop! I know it's a lot to take in but just calm down!" she said, tugging my arm.

I peered down, I was in a fresh pair of jeans and a t-shirt, I didn't remember putting these on.

I heard footsteps rushing down the hall and I looked up to meet a familiar pair of stormy blue eyes.
