Ash stared down at her drink, celebrating the greatest victory of the Commonwealth had a strange way of reminding her of the past. Finally, the fabled boogie man had been defeated and people no longer had to fear Synths or abduction but where did that leave her?

The music was loud but was still nearly drown out by the laughter and chatting taking place on the Prydwen.

"Sentinel?" Ash looked up to see Haylen, a girl who was once higher than her but now was dwarfed by Ash's rank. Ash almost didn't recognise her due to her wearing casual attire for that night.
"Haylen, we are friends and at a casual event, please call me by my name" Ash laughed slightly,
"Oh right, sorry" she giggled looking slightly embarrassed, "I was wondering why you arent joining in tonight?" she looked concerned "I mean you're starting to look like Elder Maxson"

They both turned their heads to his direction and Ash was met by a stern looking Elder, already staring at them. Quickly, laughing like school children who had been caught staring at their crush, their heads snapped back to each other. Haylen started to mimic his stern looks, seeing that it had cheered her friend up causing Ash to laugh harder.

"There!" Haylen smiled "I knew you could smile!"
"I'm sorry" she frowned, "I guess it is just the reason that I have done any of this, my son Shaun, the last of my family, is dead" she stared back down at her drink, she hadn't drank much because she felt lost.
She heard Haylen sigh, clearly sad about her situation. She felt a strong reassuring hand press against her shoulder, she knew it was too strong to be Haylen and she wasn't friends with anyone else.
"We are your family now, Sentinel" a deep voice spoke, a voice Ash recognised instantly.
"Elder Maxson!" They both spoke in surprise, jumping to attention nearly knocking the table over as they went.
Their wide eyed expression made it clear that they had hoped he hadn't heard their remarks about him.
"At ease girls," he chuckled, "It is a party after all"
"Yes Elder!" they both spoke, trying to relax their stance.
His face changed to that of a stern look causing them both to shrink down slightly, hoping that he hadn't picked up on their other conversation. His face softened again as he laughed at the two, "What?" He raised an eyebrow, looking at Haylen, "I thought that was how I apparently looked all the time, if I heard the conversation correctly"
Haylen turned a dark shade of red, sinking down further, "Sorry Elder, it won't happen again"
He shook his head, "Acutally I'm here to congratulate one of my best soldiers, not call you out," he looked like he was remember something, "Also Rhys is looking for you"
Haylen nodded her head, seeing a chance to escape the situation, "Well it'll be best if I see what he wants," she smiled to Ash, "I'll see you later?"
"Yeah" she smiled back, watching her leave through the crowd.

Elder Maxson turned back to her, "Sentinel," he looked down at her, "It is far too noisy in here to talk properly, please accompany me to a more quiet spot"
Ash nodded, still red, "Of course, Elder" she smiled, following him.

She found herself walking through the door to Elder Maxson's private quarters. He closed the door behind her and took off his coat, draping it over a chair. Ash stood slightly awkwardly, allowing herself to sneak a look at his body now he was only wearing a tight fitting black t-shirt and black jeans. She couldn't help but see the resemblance to his BOS suit he usually wore underneath, even when dressed casual he still looked exactly like himself. She did, however, now get a glimpse of his well defined chest, his muscles poking through the thin material as though it wasn't there. Her attention snapped up when she heard him clear his throat, she looked up, bright red,
"Like what you see, Ash?" He smirked, poring the two a whiskey in an old fashioned glass.
Ash turned a deeper shade of red, not only had she been caught staring, it was also the first time he had called her by her first name instead of her rank. He handed her a glass while he took a sip of his. Ash took a sip before he began talking,
"You are probably one of the best soldiers I have ever met, you came into this world with only one thing, one goal and you were willing to give that up for the greater good," he took another drink, "Without your help I do not believe this would have panned out so smoothly." He moved closer to her, placing his glass down on the counter that lay just behind her, "You have gained my full admiration, Ash" his body was in front of hers as he spoke in a low voice, staring deep into her eyes.
"Thank you," Ash spoke at barely a whisper due to their closeness.
His body boxed her in, her back stuck because of the counter and her front caged in by his body. One hand was still resting on the counter where he had placed the drink as he towered over her.
"I brought you here to congratulate you" he smirked, leaning forward, his hot breath warming her face, "Ad Victoriam"
With that his lips met hers in a passionate kiss. Ash took a few seconds for her brain to process what was going on before she found herself kissing him back. Her arms found their way around his neck as a way to keep the kiss due to him being taller than her, his body pressed into her, pushing her hard against the counter as his arm snaked around her small frame. She felt his tongue slide across her bottom lip as his hand moved up her body and to the back of her head. She parted her mouth slightly, feeling his tongue almost instantly slide in to explore. His mouth tasted of whiskey as they both explored each other, his tongue being more dominating than hers.
