Chapter 3

Scarlet

After I left the town, the last thing I had expected was to see that man again. I didn't need the distraction of someone following me at the moment. I sighed softly and glanced at him. I still didn't know his name, and he mine. "Excuse me, but if we are going to be traveling together, if that is what I must call it, then I request to know your name. I, of course, will tell you mine in return."

"Ah, of course, how inconsiderate of me." He stopped walking and bowed towards me. "My name is Nathanial Rourke IV, it is very nice to meet you miss." He extended his hand to me to take. I was a little suspicious, but place my hand in his and stated my name.

"I am Scarlet Bellscanov, it is nice to meet you as well sir." He stood back up still holding my hand and kissed the top of my hand. I lifted my chin up slightly, but didn't pull my hand away. It was considered rude if you didn't do so. Afterwards, I pulled my hand away and let it fall back to my side. "So, Nathanial, where is it that you are headed?" I noticed that the hand that he had kissed was slightly tingly, so I lightly rubbed it on the skirt of my dress. He smirked, as if satisfied, then stopped. The look on his face at this moment was confusion. He shook his head and spoke.

"I am headed to an old acquaintances house. I hadn't seen them in a while and I need to speak to them about something." I nodded accepting the information, and began walking again. "What about you Ms. Scarlet?"

"Don't call me Ms, it makes me feel old, just Scarlet is fine. And I am headed to a town farther north, close to my home town. The trip in entirety will probably take about a month in the least." I tilted my head in contemplation. "I am not exactly sure why I am telling you all this, but I guess it doesn't matter at this point does it?" Nathanial chuckled softly; I smiled to myself, deciding I liked the sound of it. After thinking that, I shook my head. Not knowing why such a thought would even cross my mind.

I looked up at the sky, hooking my hands in front of me. My mind wandered to the subject of the quest I was currently on. I had been searching for this man for the past four years. As far as I remember, this was the first time I had ever showed so many of my colors to one specific person. Never have I, before, talked about these situations, these feelings, these places. "Tell me, Nathanial, how do you know of the Fire Tribe, or the supernatural world in general?" I was still looking up at the sky, so I didn't immediately notice that he had stopped.

I stopped walking as well, after walking a few steps ahead, and looked back at him. I tilted my head, perplexed. I was about to say something when he held up his hand. "I'm sure, if I hadn't already known about the Fire Tribe, then you wouldn't tell me either. I'd like to keep this secret with me, it you do not mind." I nodded, still looking confused, but I didn't say anything. I continued to walk after he caught up with me. I was always so cautious of if someone were to walk behind me.

I rubbed at one of my eyes, as the lack of sleep began to affect to me. I probably only slept for about an hour or two. I pushed my hair out of my face again, and looked around a bit. "Are you alright?" Nathanial asked, he had asked me before, but, I once again, ignored him. I was perfectly fine, as long as I rested before long. Otherwise I knew I was going to collapse.

"Yes I am fine; I just need to rest in a little bit. You may move ahead if you would like." He stopped walking, and grabbed my shoulder; the look I saw under that hood of his was one of astonishment and concern. As if my suggestion of him walking ahead was preposterous. I snatched my arm out of his grasp, and took a small step back. The sudden stop he made me do sent my head spinning. Not only that, but everywhere he touched me, without fail, would start to tingle and get irritated. Especially when I forced him to stop. "I request that you don't touch me without permission again. Otherwise, there will be consequences." I tried to summon some fire to try to prove my point, but the second I did I became extremely light headed, stumbling back a few steps.
