Chapter Two: The Pelican State

I wake up to the sound of the twins bickering over the aux cord.

"Tina it's my turn to pick the song"  said Lincoln.

"Link, look we've been driving for I don't know how long, my butt hurts, Gio is snoring like she hasn't slept in days and if I hear the word " Squad or panda one more I'm going to scream. Now if you can get your sticky hand off the aux cord, that would be a blessing." Said Tina

"Mom!" Said Link.

My mom let's out a chuckle before defending my little brother. " Tina it isn't nice talking about your brothers music.'

I let out a yawn . " How long do we have left?"

" Will we'll be entering Louisiana in a few minutes, after that I say we have an hour before we get to the house. Look up there y'all!" Said mom.

"Welcome to  Louisiana, the Pelican State!" We say in unison.

"Mom, why isn't dad coming to the new house with us?"

I look at mom from the corner of my eye and I can see her tense up before answering Link's question.

"Well sometimes grownups don't see eye to eye, and even break their promise." She sniffs and twitch her nose to make it look like its just allergies or something ." but your father and I are just needing our space right now."

I hate seeing mom like this, I hope I didn't give her the wrong advice by persuading her to move here. I take a deep breath and look out the window  into the swamp that we've passed  over . It's time to grow up, it's time to grow thicker skin and change things up.
