"Your honor, this is the case between Ms. Hascom and Mr. Hascom."
"Ok Ms. Hascom, you wish to be granted a divorce from Mr. Hascom, is this correct?"
"Yes your honor." she answered.
"And Mr. Hascom, I am sure you have something say about this.."
"Yes your honor I do, I do not wish to grant Ms. Hascom this divorce. She has had an affair, and made a fool out of me..."
Ms. Hascom is this true?" He questioned Sarah.
"No your Honor, I was not physically involved with..."
"You are lying!" Mark yelled at her.
"Mr. Hascom, Order! The Judge let his voice be heard, "Mr. Hascom, might I suggest to you what led to this so called affair in the first place?"
"No sir your honor..."
"And let us not forget that you are currently serving a bit of time as it is for battery..."
"But your Honor..." Mark interrupted.
"Let me also make it clear to you Mr. Hascom that I better not catch you near Ms. Hascom again. Might I suggest that you grant your soon to be ex wife her plea for divorce. It will really be in your best interest." The Judge finished and glared at Mark.
Mark shifted in his seat and rose. "Your honor, I know that I have had some issues and that I..."
Once again the judge cut him off. "Mr. Hascom, at this point, in my mind, you no longer have the right to speak. So I am gonna make myself heard one more time." the Judge paused for a breath. "If I hear of you bothering Ms. Hascom again, you will quickly find yourself with a little extra time added to your stay where you are presently residing." He turned to the rest of the court room. "Now, Ms. Hascom agreed to let Mr. Hascom have the house and everything there within that house. She has also requested a restraining order against Mr. Hascom for life. This divorce and restraining order are both granted to Ms. Hascom, and should therefore be followed. Do both parties agree with this?" He first looked at Sarah.
She respectfully responded with a "Yes your honor."
He then looked at Mark. Mark did not respond right away, but looked over at Sarah with hatred in his eyes. Sarah slowly looked away. "Mr Hascom I am waiting for an answer!"
Mark knew he had lost her, and looked back at the judge. "Yes your honor."
"Then I find this case in honor of the Plaintiff, with no rights to an appeal. This case is now closed. May you all have a good day." With that the Judge rose. Sarah turned to look at Steve and suddenly realized she was no longer a married woman.
Steve made his way to Sarah and hugged her tight. "I love you Sarah! And he squeezed her even tighter. Mark was escorted out of the courtroom and out of the courthouse but not before he glanced over at Steve. Sarah never looked over at him once after the judge ruled in her favor, but Steve caught the look of contempt on Marks face. New thoughts began dancing around Steve's head. "Is this really over? Or will there be more to deal with in the future. Can I protect this woman?" He thought to himself. He glanced at Sarah and knew they could get through anything together.
Lost in his thoughts, Sarah tapped him on the arm."Steve, honey, you ready to get out of here?" She said smiling sweetly.
"You bet darlin, lets go!" He smiled back. They all left the courtroom together, eager to start their brand new life. Sarah knew there was a glimmer of hope from the moment Melanie helped her escape her nightmare. Steve and herself could get through anything. She realized that when Steve walked into her life that hope had already been well on it's way of becoming a reality. She just had to find her own strength to move forward, and with the help of her friends, and her new love, she was able to accomplish just that.
