Carter’s POV
Darkness. Complete and utter darkness. My life has been a never-ending hell for who knows how many days now. I finish off another bottle of vodka and my head is pounding in protest. I wipe away the remaining tears on my face and my gums are throbbing from clenching my teeth so much.
My wolf is on the verge of tearing through me, but the alcohol seems to be pushing him farther and farther away. But that certainly doesn’t ease the pain of losing my mate. Not only had my wolf grown attached to her, which is inevitable, but I had grown attached to her, in love with her. I unclench my fists and I can feel the dried blood flake off, despite breaking everything in my room, due to my werewolf healing I didn’t suffer any long-term damage.
There is a soft knock on the door, and my voice comes out dry and weak, “Go away.”
My tongue feels like it’s made of lead and I can taste blood in my mouth, speaking two words shouldn’t be that hard. The door opens anyways, and Georgia is standing weakly in the doorway and she gasps at the sight before her. Her bottom lip trembles, “Carter…”
A low growl escapes rumbles through my chest, “Get. Out.”
“I’m so sorry, this is all my fault.” She sobs.
Jake quickly comes up behind her, and she collapses in his arms, he whispers darkly in her ear, “I thought we decided not to tell him quite yet…not until after the wedding.”
For the first time in days I stand up, “Wedding?”
Both of their drain of all color, and their eyes widen greatly. Jake responds, “Carter just calm down…”
I stalk angrily up to him, push Georgia out of the way and wrap my hands around Jake’s neck, “DON’T FUCKING TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!”
I slowly release his neck, and Jake gives me a defeated look, “My mom had Georgia.”
I glare at him the anger rapidly building up inside of me, “Get to the point pup.”
A flash of hurt flashes in Jake’s eyes, but guilt quickly replaces it, which makes my stomach churn. What is going on here? “To get Georgia back I had to give Cosette back to my mom with the mate bond broken so I had to forge a letter saying she rejected you. And she made me promise not to tell you until after Cosette married Greg.”
My vision turns red and a loud snarl rips through the air. Almost immediately my mom is in my room also and she is standing in front of me, “I know Carter, I know that you want to go get her right now but that is not a good idea.”
“DO NOT TELL ME WHAT IS RIGHT FOR ME AND MY MATE!” I scream in her face.
She stands her ground, and looks me straight in the eye, making my wolf feel challenged, she whispers to me, “Wait until the wedding. It won’t be unusual for you to show up there. You can get her before the wedding, but you will have to run away Carter. Far away.”
My mind begins racing, Cosette didn’t reject me, there is still a chance, we still have a future. And whether she wants me to or not I am coming for her and we are leaving. And possibly never coming back.
