Just One

It started with just one word.

But I learned to brush it off and not care.

Then it led to more. "Fat. Whore. Emo. Bitch. Player. Bastard."

Slowly one by one my friends faded away until there was just one.

Then the rumors started.

"Did you hear she slept with him?"

"Did you hear he cuts himself at home?"

And then that one friend left.

And I thought "Well it's just one lie right?"

So I brushed it off and acted like I didn't have a care in the world.

Then my locker, social websites, desks, were all harassed by the words that should have never left a person's lips.

"Bitch. Whore. Bastard. Worthless." were now words I thought I deserved.

I thought, "Well, what can I do? I'm just one person."

So I dressed in my uniform and headed to school.

This kept on for weeks and that just one that I was holding on to seemed to be just one lifetime away.

One day after school I saw a razor. "Just one" I said.

The next day I wore a long sleeve shirt. "Its just one day." I spoke to no one in particular.

More weeks went on and nothing changed.

Now instead of just one cut, it was just one arm.

I had enough. It was obvious it wasn't going to be just one.

I went into the cupboard and took out the bleach.

"Just one sip."

The next day it was "Just one cup"

One week later I heard crying.

It was my sister.

"It was just one"  I said in a sad voice.

But she couldn't hear me.

"Why?" was all she said.

"Why? Why? Why?"

I said, "Because it wasn't just once."

She didn't hear me.

I saw that she was holding a white rose. "I'm sorry its just one," she said.

And then she let go of that just one.

And it landed on my grave.

I touched her shoulder, but she couldn't feel it, for I was now her guardian angel and said "That's all I wanted."
