Everything was calm. It was peaceful, just looking out at the stars and wishing to be anywhere but here until my father slammed the door open and grabbed me by the front of my shirt.
"Dress nice, we have a dinner tonight with Mrs.Delacour and her daughter." He hissed. I nodded my head quickly and he let me go before stomping out. I let out a sigh and sat there for a second, wishing for anything but this. Family dinners meant acting proper and like we were a perfect family. Something my family wasn't even close to.
I walked quietly to my closet, making sure to make as little noise as possible, and pulled out a black knee length dress that's tight around the chest but flows out at the waist. I also grabbed a pair of black wedges and tights and hurriedly got dressed. I fidgeted around in the uncomfortable outfit, trying to make it a bit more comfortable before finally giving up.
"This is gonna be one hell of a night." I murmured.
[At the dinner]
"So, Ms.Summers, how has school been?" Mrs.Delacour asked me."It's been great mam, thank you for asking. I have my grades all up above a 95 and I have two 100s, one in Language Arts and the other in Math." I responded politely with a smile.
"That's great dear, I'm glad you are doing well. What about here at home? What do you like to do in the free time?" I tensed up at the question. I wasn't really allowed to do anything in my free time except clean, and even if I do get free time I can't move from the beatings my parents give me.
"W-well, I like to play guitar and sometimes I sing." I said quietly. My parents shot me a look and I gave them an apologetic look back. My mother just shook her head and continued eating. Of course, once again she's disappointed. What else was I supposed to say?
"Can you play us something?" Amy, Mrs.Delacour's daughter, piped up from beside her.
"If that's alright with my parents." I looked at my mother and father for an answer. I saw a flash of anger cross my father's face before it was gone once again, replaced with a small smile.
"Of course! Go fetch your guitar darling." My mom said with fake cheeriness, a fake grin plastered on her face. I quickly stood up and hurried upstairs and grabbed my black guitar and Pierce the Veil pick.
"That's a beautiful guitar!" Amy exclaimed with a smile when I entered the dining room again.
"Thank you. I'm going to play a song called Hold on Till May, by Pierce the Veil."
Amy and Mrs.Delacour nod and I took a deep breath before beginning.
"She sits up high, surrounded by the sun, one million branches and she loves every one. 'Mom and dad, did you search for me? I've been up here so long I'm going crazy!'"
I lowered my voice for the next part.
"And as the sun went down, we ended up on the ground. I heard the train shake the windows, you screamed over the sound. And as we own this night I put your body to the test with mine. This love was out of control, 3-2-1 where did it go?
"Now don't be crazy, yes now of course you can stay here! I'm in a touring band we're going on ten years. 'Big deal,' she said, 'I guess you're official.' I only said it cause I know what it's like to feel...burned out and down.
"We've all been there sometimes, but tonight, I'll make you feel beautiful once again!"
I kept singing until the one part that I always got choked up on.
"If I were you, I'd put that away. See your wasted and thinking bout the past again, darling you'll be okay!
"And she said, 'if you were me, you'd do the same, yes you would! Cause I can't take anymore, I'll draw the shades and close the door, everything's not alright, and I would rather...."
